Do you think he's going to declare for the NBA draft? I had heard that he made some comments that sounded like he might stay one more year.

I think he comes back for the Sweet Sixteen. You can see how much he wants to play.

I remember how much Cincinnati got punished on the line when Kenyon Martin broke his leg. With your resume, and without Embiid, Kansas should probably be a #4 seed, although it wouldn't surprise me if you ended up with a high 3.

4 seed? LOL Name the 12 teams with a better resume. And Embiid can still come back; he's not out for sure.

Don't be ridiculous. I'm as big a proponent of Embiid as anybody (and I don't think KU can realistically beat the Floridas/Arizonas of the world without him), but the lack of him doesn't drop a team with KU's resume and talent two seed lines. You're overestimating the rest of the teams in the NCAA if you think so.

Better resumes and not suffering from a massive loss:
Arizona, Florida, Duke, Villanova, Wichita St., Michigan, Wisconsin, and if they win their conference tournies, Creighton and Virginia. It's not about where the teams are at full strength, nor is it solely about the body of work. The committee looks heavily at the last third of the season and if there are any notable injuries.

In the end, it's going to come down to the quality of the team and that doesn't change no matter how many games you lose against good teams. |

The only teams who I can say definitively do are Arizona and Florida (Wichita St. hasn't beaten or even played anybody good all season). |

I wouldn't be using RPI to advance your point. KU is #3 in that. That particular measure is exactly what's going to keep KU as a #2 seed on Sunday (as the committee uses it like a crutch to seed teams).

All of this isn't to say that KU is even a top 8 team without Embiid. I personally don't think they are (though there hasn't been anywhere near the kind of sample size needed for me or the committee to say for sure on that matter). And arguments about seeding are quite unnecessary anyway because of what a crapshoot the tournament is. Whether they're a 2 or 3, KU's chances won't be significantly affected either way.
But when you win the best conference in the country by multiple games and perform as well as KU did against the toughest NCAA schedule in recent college basketball history (at least top 6 in all of the main statistical criteria), it's verging on trolling to suggest this team's overall resume isn't good enough to make them a 2 seed. Heck, there is still a one seed available that KU was projected at by some as recently as yesterday. Does another loss against a very good team really change all that much? I would be very surprised if a team with the track record and talent of KU was dropped any further than 2 on Sunday. |

That said, it still might not be enough for him to stick around. He's a consensus Top 3 pick. I would be very surprised if he stays, but if he does, that's the reason why. I think he does come back and play this year if we advance past the first weekend. His dad seems optimistic about it as does Embiid. He loves playing for this team. Lots of players play through this injury not even knowing they have it. He can't make it worse, its just a matter of relieving the pain. I don't think he shuts it down just to protect his draft status. If it doesn't heal, that's another thing, but if the doctors give him the OK, he's going to play if we're still alive.
