Aoki is a pesky bastard. He doesn't do anything well or poorly. He's an average defender, average hitter, and despite the steals numbers, an average baserunner.
Stil, Steamer likes him for about 2 WAR next year. I have to imagine that's a lot better than what you'd get from that **** bitch Cain

I think he is a good player but I also think Smith showed a lot of promise last season with a few great outings. |

So now we have way to many outfielders. Gordon, Maxwell, Cain, Aoki, Lough. Didnt we acquire some other swingin dick too?

We would probably get more for Cain, and we actually need Butler. Cain would be wasted on our bench.

At this point, 2015 does not really matter until next November.

Ya, I think that's rather shortsighted to end up back at 0 if that's what they are looking to do, unless they have something else in mind for CF and don't believe that he's the guy to play there in the future? Who, and presumably we're talking about someone whose a clear upgrade, that player would be, I have no idea!

I agree. While we've been fine with plugging guys in to that spot, it's really been at the cost of batting them where they would be a better fit, more valuable spot in the order, and I'm hoping this will serve to cure some of our run production issues because we all know this team isn't getting a boost from the longball, and has to be able to string together some productive at bats to get guys home.

Just looking at the batting lineup as of right now:
Aoki Gordon Butler Hosmer Perez Moose Cain Bonifacio Escobar I think the question then would be if you add Beltran to the mix, do you bat him 3rd or 5th? |

I hit him or Hosmer 3rd. Preferably Beltran. The other hits 4th. Billy now hits 5th (and is one of the best 5th-place hitters in baseball, honestly).

Beltran Hosmer Butler Pretty sold 3-4-5. Maybe not big home run numbers but 3 very deadly hitters. |

.350 OBP .370 OBP .340 OBP .350 OBP .370 OBP That's how you build productive and CONSISTENT lineups. Stack guys that get on base, especially guys that can get on base and provide some XB pop. Salvador Perez might drive in 80 runs from the six spot with those five hitting in front of him. (Easy bet for 100 if he played everyday).

I think this closes the door on a Beltran deal. IF you were looking at Beltran, it would be as your everyday RF, which he's still able to do and give you a serious bat.
I'm not sure if I like it or not. He's a solid player...but is he going to help that much offensively? Are his numbers THAT much better than the Lough/Maxwell platoon? |
