Just to play devil's advocate and use an argument I've seen approximately a thousand times about various QBs around draft time, I like Bridgewater as much as the next guy, and the Florida bowl game was impressive, but his stats are fattened by a schedule stocked with powerhouses like Kentucky, Missouri State, UNC, FIU, Southern Miss, Pitt, South Florida, Cincinnati, Temple, Syracuse, UConn and Rutgers.
And even if he's god's gift to QBs and the preseason favorite for the #1 pick in 2014, the team could fall apart, he could get hurt, or he could be great, the chiefs win 8 games and have no chance at him, or any other top QB. They can't make a decision based on what they might be able to do in 2014. Not with the number 1 pick now. |

And those negatives that you've foreshadowed could possibly happen, I agree. But that's unlikely. If I didn't say this before, I'll say it now: I watched all of their games this year and the chances of the team falling apart is unlikely. If I'm not mistaken, they only lose 1 starter on defense. And only 1 from the starting WR corp. They lose only 2 on their O-line, but they have the depth to fill that void. On top of that they have a very good class coming in, that will add depth to an already deep receiving corp, as well as the linebacking unit. Not to mention straight studs they redshirted this year. Long story short, the notion of them falling apart is unlikely. Injury, however, is probable for any player in CFB. So, who knows. And now I will reiterate: Geno is not a bad pick. The top 2 QB prospects in this Draft are him, and Tyler Wilson. What I'm saying is, I wouldn't be surprised if Reid took another route, to use the pick on the O-Line, and then draft a QB later, so that he can at least see what Cassel can do in his system. To be fair, Dysert and Nassib are outright studs, with Dysert being one of the more underrated QBs this year (Along with Colby Cameron) and could wind up being a steal. But again, Geno would not be much of a reach when you consider how he could fit into Reid's system. |

Is Kiper paying douchebags to come here and try to knock Geno?

I have wondered if the league has been trying to have some of these quarterbacks fall to bigger markets.

I've long had that theory. Eli to NY was pretty obvious. Then Sanchez taken ridiculously high, again in NY. My theory on him was that the league wanted a new Hispanic face of the NFL in a major market. Then a few years later when the league expands he can go to LA in a blockbuster trade. Creates an automatic rivalry with NYC, puts a local hero as the centerpiece. 'course that gets derailed because he sucks, and they haven't expanded, but that was what I thought at the time.

Mike Glennon and Matt Barkley are the guys who could be picked in round 2 if one is there.
If you think Reid is not going to consider one of those guys you're crazy. Both played in a pro style West Coast offense. And the accuracy concerns around Glennon are not justified. You put any QB in college on that NC State offense and they completing below 60% just like Glennon. Last edited by RunKC; 01-19-2013 at 05:00 PM.. |

Guys like Schaub ( and to an extent, Flacco) are System QBs. You won't see Schaub drop back 40 times, to try to come back from a deficit in order to win you a game. Dude needs his play action and the threat of the run to prosper. A better example, and the epitome of a system quarterback, would be Alex Smith. Look at that guy pre and post Harbaugh. So chances are, Reid will roll with Cassel, and draft a guy like Dysert (Who's already running a West Coast like offense) in the mid rounds to back Cassel up. But then again that's all in theory. Sometimes an RBI or an in the park Homerun is just as good as trying to hit a 500 ft solo HR off an Aroldis Chapman 100+ MPH fastball lol. |
