I remember when the first Gulf War hit. Went to the Lake of the Ozarks with some friends on a Friday, gas was .74 cents a gallon...came back on Sunday night, gas had shot up to $1.29. It was the biggest increase I can ever remember seeing.

Yeah, I remember that. I lived in Buffalo Grove (NW suburb of Chicago) at the time - gas went from $1.00 to $1.50 overnight. ****ing scumbags.

I started driving in 1980. I remember filling my Bug up at 1.299/gallon. That was considered astronomical at the time. Actually, in today's dollars, it was the highest gas price for a long time (until it went over $3.00 a couple of years ago).
As for the $3/gal gas, that actually sounds really good at this time. We are at $3.959 right now. |

It's come down to about $3.68 up here - dropped about 20 cents over the past couple of weeks.
Funny thing is, last time the price of crude was under $90 per barrel, the price per gallon was much lower. Apparently they've softened the public up to the point they can charge whatever they want to now. |

I remember .57 cents per gallon in the summer of 1987. Went to KC a lot that year.
