Game of Thrones Thread

Feel free to discuss any future speculation, theories. Anything from the books is fair game to post. Everything that has been broadcast on TV or from HBO. No spoilers needed.

  1. If you watched or know the events that will take place in a unaired episode that has not been broadcast on HBO, you must put all the information and comments in a spoiler tag.
  2. Do not post any media of any kind involving actual content from unaired episodes without being in a spoiler. The only exception to the spoiler rule is content publicly posted from HBO and or the GOT actor themselves. Teasers, promos, trailers etc.

Any person unable to follow the spoiler rules will be banned from this thread. 14 days for first offense. Perm banned from the thread for a 2nd offense.

But, the TV version totally ****ed up Dorne and the Sand Snakes and the Direwolfs.
Yes, how could I forget the single best show addition...Brienne vs. the Hound! Loved that fight scene.

Loved how ****ing brutal that scene was. Didn't care for the plot convenience of Brienne encountering both Arya and Sansa in a land mass equivalent of Siberia, but.... that fight scene makes me look past it.

Additionally, while the show badly botched the sand snakes (apart from one epic rack), they at least got rid of the single dumbest element of the entire book series - Quentyn Martell. They managed to free the dragons and introduce us to the windblown using Tyrion; a far FAR better plot mechanism than spending a couple hundred pages dragging Quentyn Martell around the world only to unceremoniously barbecue him.

It isn't always what was added, it was what was removed. By and large, the show had done an excellent job streamlining superfluous bullshit.

BRC is trying to help avoid that but still trying not to go overboard, and people treat him like dirt when it would be REALLY F***ING EASY (and the courteous thing to do) to just comply with the no spoilers rules, and if your not sure, just spoiler tag it to be safe.

Dammit, now I'm dragged into this mess too. Okay, back on topic:

What the hell is up with the Brotherhood without Banners slaughtering people? I really hope there is more going on there as that makes no sense to me and is not what they have been doing in the past. They are supposed to help the common folks, not rob and murder them just like the people they used to fight against. Does anybody think that means that (BOOK SPOILER):

Spoiler!
The thought I heard us that one day of the three dudes recognized the hound and killed them presuming they were Lannisters

'Game of Thrones' Director Confirms Season 7 Will Be Shorter

"Game of Thrones" showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff caused a stir earlier this year when they suggested that the next (and final?) two seasons of "Game of Thrones" would be shorter than seasons past, encompassing just 13 episodes between them. Now, one of the show's directors has confirmed that an abbreviated season seven is indeed in order.

Jack Bender, who helmed two recent season six episodes, "The Door" and "Blood of My Blood," spoke with Vanity Fair about his work on "Thrones." When asked directly whether or not he'd return for the recently-ordered season seven, Bender told VF, "I don't know how to answer that."

He continued:
They're only doing seven [episodes], and they've got their regulars who have done it forever. I know that I had a wonderful experience doing the show and I know that Dan and David are thrilled with the shows. ... I haven't been asked yet and I also don't know what their schedule is going to be. But under the best of circumstances, schedule and everything, I had a great experience doing the show. If available and they wanted me to, I would love to do that."

Plus they want to err on the side of fewer episodes in order to keep a pace of story-telling that will satisfy viewers. So only two more seasons makes sense to me if the show is going to maintain its quality level all the way through.

But the real issue on number of episodes per season is likely a budget issue. If they get a total budget of $60 million a season, and they try to split that among 10 episodes, then it becomes hard to do the material justice as we reach the point in the story where fantasy elements are overtaking the human elements, culminating in one or more huge battles among various factions, and also presumably between dragons and the white walkers. The CGI costs to do these last two seasons well, and with top notch visual effects that the show needs and deserves, are going to be HUGE for a TV show. It would be one thing if it were a movie with a $150 million budget for two hours of material, but the CGI cost is going to be completely unprecedented for TV.
Hawk nailed it. White walkers and war takes money.

There is one path in and out of the Vale. Why would they never meet on the same road coming and going?

I agree. Much better about moving the story along but also keeping the same story lines but changing how it happens.
Spoiler!

I agree the CGI and stunts won't be cheap. I thought this years budget was $100 million due to the increase in actors salaries for two more seasons and the CGI increases this year with the dragons and war battles at Wintefell.

But, this is the biggest hit HBO and cable has ever had. Sopranos was a big hit in the USA but no where near the phenomena that is GOT worldwide. They should have the money to put out another two full seasons of 20 episodes. There is still plenty of story left to tell.

In 2015 HBO reported income of $4.7 billion. I'm sure GOT is responsible for a lot of that revenue. You can spend $200 million a year on GOT and that is still only a small % of your revenue.

Don't go cheap HBO.

If I remember correctly DnD said months and months ago they thought they had about 13 episodes of story left to tell, so I doubt it's just an hbo thing. Hbo would I think try to milk it for all it's worth for as long as they can. They've been talking potential spinoffs for the better part of a year in fact.

I thought the Quentyn story was hit & miss. I do enjoy the Tattered Prince theories though.
