I'm not worried about Sean Smith. Clays hate for him is a little overboard. The corner we should be concerned about is Dunta Robinson. He will get burned in the slot/nickel. Sean Smith will be able to press and play a lot of man, and will be just fine. Much better than Arenas and Routt.

the Falcons secondary gave up more pass yards than our crap secondary did last year

and they made the playoffs. Dunta was a part of that secondary that yielded more yards than what we put at CB last year

The game manager defense. We can go there.

You speak of QBs like Ben Rothlisberger and Joe Flacco who played on teams and won with a lot of help from their defenses. Flacco ironically won the Super Bowl with his worst defense in years, but that's besides the point. Those QBs do what it takes to win and that's all that matters is what you're saying. Fair enough.

You know what else those QBs do? Throw for 300-400 yards with multiple TDs. They win shootouts. They win grind games. They make clutch plays. And they do it in the playoffs. Their careers are marked all over with a victories against tough teams that run the statistical gambit. From running game-focused ground pound games to shoot outs. Playoffs or not. They're capable of taking whatever form is necessary for victory and making it work.

Don't even try comparing Alex Smith to those QBs. He's not at all what you think he is. He's far more Kyle Orton than he'll ever be Roethlisberger or Flacco.

Out of curiosity I wonder how many passing yards are given up by teams with big leads during garbage time? (AKA Cassel vs Denver 2010)

Didn't Atlanta blow a bunch of teams out last season?

On the contrary end we got blown out so much weren't teams just running the ball a lot at the end of games?

A lot of his play wasn't getting beat - it was very "Bartee-like" being in position to make a play and just not doing it.
