Bucs not planning to extend Josh Freeman
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...mans-contract/
According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, the Bucs won’t be extending Freeman’s contract, which expires after the 2013 season. And as Stroud explains it, the decision not to sign Freeman to a new deal could be part of a plan by coach Greg Schiano, who inherited Freeman, to get his own quarterback. And Freeman may change Schiano’s mind only by playing so well this season that Freeman leaves the Bucs with no other option than to use the franchise tag or sign him to a long-term deal. One possibility would be to apply the non-exclusive tag and to see if anyone is willing to sign Freeman to an offer sheet and give up a pair of first-round picks. That would enable the Bucs to pull a reverse Keyshawn, giving up a player and getting two first-round picks 14 years after they gave up two first-round picks to get Keyshawn Johnson from the Jets. The Bucs likely would settle for less, since the alternative will be to let Freeman walk away. |

Geno Smith has been compared to Donovan McNabb when he came out of Syracuse. You couldn't ask for a better coach in that situation imo if those comparisons are accurate.

I for one, wont back off the assertion that with the right coach Freeman has a chance to be roethlisberger lite, i wouldnt go off the deep end were he the QB here.
The problem of course, is what it would take to get him and i would rather use those picks in the draft and get a golden aura rookie... but to dismiss Freeman as garbage when he's had a 4000 yard season for a junked out bucs team, is foolish, he has as of yet untapped potential. But i highly doubt it happens and will be plenty thrilled with pretty much whatever Reid does, i'm not going to get all tied in a knot over Freeman. |

Would the Bucs be interested in a trade for Pro-bowl QB who grades out perfectly?

I've not really studied the QB's in next years draft. I've seen the Geno clips you posted and he does look damn good.
I've been supporting taking a QB with the #1 pick. Identify your QOTF and take him #1, **** draft value. Why risk someone jumping in front of you and taking your QOTF? But now with Reid safely in place. I trust Reid will get us a top NFL QB. It's a part of who he is, how he runs a team. He will GIT-R-DONE!

Freeman was a top 10 QB in TD's and passing yards. Yes he has flaws, but most are correctable. Who the **** has coached Josh Freeman? Honestly? A Raheem Morris and Greg Shiano staff? Really? McNabb had accuracy concerns and was raw too. Reid fixed that up. Vick wasn't a great passer either but low and behold Reid made him look great in his first year starting. If Freeman is throwing 27 TD's with a shitty coaching staff consisting of a dumbass college coach, imagine what Reid can do with him. The guy has the potential to pu up 35 TD's and 4,200 passing yards in Reid's system. I think he definitely worth a look. |
