Madden 2005 -- funny stuff...

I decided to start a franchise in Madden with the Chiefs and instead of playing the games for the first (2004) season, I would sim them to mimic what has happened in real life.

Right now, I'm starting week 4 at 0-3 and here's a couple of gems.

Chris Bober and Jason Dunn are demanding playing time or a trade.

But these are the funniest:

I checked my Advisors screen and amongst other things, they're saying "The sports radio shows are ripping the team new one" and "We've got cap room. Now's not the time to be frugal."

A freaking video game is smart enough to figure it out, but the braintrust at 1 Arrowhead Drive isn't?

No matter what, your team will ALWAYS be ranked highly against the run and low against the pass. In most cases, you'll end up 1st and 32nd.

It's not because your team actually SUCKS defending the pass or is GOOD against the run. It's because in the games that the CPU plays against itself (the simmed games) there are way too many rushing attempts and too few pass attempts.

At least they fixed the pass rush this year. I can get a good rush with both my left AND right defensive ends.
That's NOT true, at least not in my franchises.

I've finished 29ith against the run before.

Well, I suppose it's possible to completely shift the AI in the favor of the computer.

I bet you'll never finish with a defense ranked 13th and 10th or something though....

I just finished a season with the Chiefs (default rosters) where I was 21st against the run and 14th against the pass.

I'm not at all seeing what you suggested (too few passing plays in CPU simmed games) and furthermore, if it was a problem you could fix it by adjusting each team's offensive philosophy...yes, it's a pain, but it's fixable...

No, I use default rosters for testing. When you edit players or move players around (via trades/free agency) it screws up the team's overall ratings.

So I use default rosters for testing sliders, because then I can compare actual results to team ratings and achieve some level of accuracy -- ie. I can tweak sliders so that a 94 offense performs like it should against a 71 defense.

For franchise mode, or playing against friends, I use the latest rosters from PSRosters.com.

I have an Action Replay for XBox. It's a memory card dongle that plugs into the USB port on my PC. I put a memory card in it and can transfer files back and forth...

Hmmm...very interesting. Does that usually happen or is it an anomaly?

Are you running 60 plays per side per game?

There's a huge thread at MaddenMania about this. So far the only solution they have found is to take control of EVERY team before you start your franchise and set the run/pass ration to 30/70:

Truth be told it's not really a big deal, who cares where you are ranked as long as you are getting realistic stats in the games you actually PLAY.

I haven't read the thread at MaddenMania, but every complaint I've seen on the subject has come from people playing on All-Pro difficulty. I really think All-Madden difficulty fixes alot of it.
