Obviously you are still butthurt over that eight years after the fact.

And the 2005 gloating by a subset of our fans was only a couple years after Self left. It doesn't make it right but the wound was still pretty fresh at that point. I will admit that I laughed my ass off when KU got beat by the killer B teams but it was less about Self butthurt and more about the fact that I normally liked seeing KU lose.

Agreed. The Big XII is looking fairly strong this year so he should get his ass kicked thoroughly in conference play. I imagine one of the promising freshman we have will transfer, so at best he'll get fired after next season.

At the outset, we were pissed that Self left and felt Weber was an X and O guy that could have success with the roster left to him and capitalize on that success with good recruiting. We had the Final Four run and then it fell off a cliff. We then figured out that he was awful at recruiting and he was in fact a shitty in-game coach. The Eric Gordon de-commitment was pretty much the nail in the coffin for most fans.

Uh you didn't have to seek it out, Illinois fans would come over to ku boards and obviously links would be posted to some of the funnier grand conspiracy and sour grape tirades that went on with that fan base.

I took my girlfriend along with some other friends to the Champions Classic last week, and her boss is an Illini fan- so she wanted to make sure she could cut out a little early last Tuesday. He was totally cool with it and everything she says about the guy seems like he's a good guy and not a bad boss to have.

She mentioned KU just casually saying her boyfriend and his friends went to KU (she went to Notre Dame) and she said he flipped- like saw red. She got stuck she said for about 20 minutes having to listen to him trash Self and KU. It was like a bizarre therapy session where he just kept venting while at the same time trying to indoctrinate her as to why she should hate KU for X, Y, Z. Really odd, and she was just kind of bemused, standing there eyes glazing over because she's not some huge sports fan and the guy might as well have been speaking Spanish.
A good majority of the Illinois fans have moved along from this, since it has been a decade and all, but there is a vocal contingent that still will shout nasty shit if I happen to be wearing something with KU on it just walking around Chicago.

Precisely. I liked that 2005 team at IL, they played a fun brand of basketball and I was interested seeing if that was how Self would build KU basketball, around guards. (As it turned, he built it around big buys really). I wanted them to win the title but damn those cats would come over and just rip Self constantly. It was annoying.

There are still a few batshit insane idiots that are completely and utterly obsessed with KU within the Illinois fanbase. It's getting to the point that those idiots are just being banned from the Illin boards because all they do is roll out their "Self is a cheater" schtick.

Losing Cliff to KU, especially with the hat fake, woke up the beast in the vocal idiot minority of the fanbase.

The motion offense that Weber employed was a perfect fit for the team he inherited, as there were three guys that could run the point effectively (Deron Williams, Dee Brown and Luther Head). It is unknown how well the high/low would have worked with that group had Self stayed. Although if he had stayed, that 2005 team would have likely had Charlie Villanueva as well, and that would have been a scary team.

I'd agree with that - before a vast majority would follow the craziest guy posting some hairbrain theory right over the cliff of sanity like a bunch of lemmings. Now, you've got your 10-20 percent of nutjobs still but the rest just treat them like you would if you had a senile old deeply racist in law during the holidays- right to the corner.

Hell unc fans are melting down. I've seen posts stating that Wiggins didn't go there only because Roy wouldn't promise him he didn't have to take classes for the spring semester, and didn't want to work as hard as Roy would make him and he could coast under Self. Now, that's delusional!!!!
