I thought he'd bust too. Surprised me, but I think he'll likely look quite a bit more mortal when teams figure him out.

He's figuring teams out too. He didn't have OTAs and Training camp last year. As a rookie, those are invaluable.

I was under the impression they ran a dumbed down offense with a relatively small playbook too. Thought I'd heard that somewhere.

Him figuring them out will only work if he goes the route Vick finally has and gets everything about his offense and recognizing defenses down to a T. He won't maintain success if he relies solely on his athletic ability.

You guys shouldnt be calling Gabbert a bust.

It's ignorant to do so.

No, that's not right.

He didn't rely on athletic ability last year either. He was reading defenses and going through progressions. And with the amount of film he and coach Rivera say he's been watching this off season, he can't do anything but be better in that aspect.

I'm pretty sure I recall reading something of the sort. No offense, but I wish I could find a source so I could know for sure.

I dunno, a lot of his highlights were just him chucking the ball beautifully to an open guy. Doesn't necessarily mean he did a good job reading the defense, Vick had great success at times b/c of the threat he posed as a runner helping receivers get open, and we know he didn't read defenses much if at all for the majority of his career.

Vick NEVER EVER passed like Newton did last year.

Why? B/c Vick didn't have Steve Smith or the more biased rules towards passing? Vick had NO WR's. Still, in his first year as the full time starter, he tore things up. Never matched that same success though.

I'm pretty sure that Vick's passing stats his rookie season were pretty pedestrian.

For Cam's sake though, I hope he's really digging into the intricacies of the game. Relying of athletic ability is a terrible pitfall. Carolina deserves a chance at being relevant.

Looking at Vick's stats, he's had one season in which he's completed more than 60% of his passes (2010), and two in which he has passed for more than 3000 yards (2010 and 11).

He has yet to surpass 3400 yards.

He only played in 8 games, had zero receivers, and played with nowhere near the passing bias.
