I'm thinking the thief was the Russian kid who set up the hi-def camera in the mob-owned theater, and then added the digital audio afterward.
Call the KGB.

I don't buy the "they're stealing first" argument. I don't think dinner at fancy restaurants is worth the price, so I don't go. I don't go, order food, eat it and skip out on the tab. |

The act of you taking media that doesn't belong to you and that you do not have a license for - the copyright belongs to the owner - is piracy, whether it's a movie, music or software. Don't try to argue semantics, you know you're wrong and it's piracy, you're just mincing words.

But those prices are ****ing outrageous. Kind of makes it hard to feel sorry for the motion picture industry over pirating (or pretty much anything else). Perhaps they should stop paying some of these people $20 million for three months worth of work and pass those savings along to the consumers. Maybe then I'll give a shit. And no, I don't watch pirated stuff. But with all the ways everybody's getting bent over right now, I'm not losing any sleep over it, either. |

I have an interesting ethical question.
If you find something that you have a gut feeling would not be offered free being offered free on a prominent [probably the biggest] established site for downloading free and pay media. It's not being disguised as it is named exactly what it is. What would you do? What would you think of people who download it? Is the moral imperative on the provider or the individual?

District 9 = Okay.
Harry Potter = Meh. They need to get the final duel on, and get that shit over with.

Watched it last night and thought it was a pretty good light comedy. And yeah and staring at Audry Tautou was a definite plus.

I saw "Moon" with Sam Rockwell over the weekend. Great movie! More of a psychological thriller than a sci-fi, but all sci-fi lovers will still enjoy it.

It is a lonely job, made harder by a broken satellite that allows no live communications home. Taped messages are all Sam can send and receive. Thankfully, his time on the moon is nearly over, and Sam will be reunited with his wife, Tess, and their three-year-old daughter, Eve, in only a few short weeks. Finally, he will leave the isolation of “Sarang,” the moon base that has been his home for so long, and he will finally have someone to talk to beyond “Gerty,” the base’s well-intentioned, but rather uncomplicated computer. Suddenly, Sam’s health starts to deteriorate. Painful headaches, hallucinations and a lack of focus lead to an almost fatal accident on a routine drive on the moon in a lunar rover. While recuperating back at the base (with no memory of how he got there), Sam meets a younger, angrier version of himself, who claims to be there to fulfill the same three year contract Sam started all those years ago.

Dude, if I would have had to pay to go to a theater and watch District 9 and Harry Potter back to back, I would have asked one of the attendants politely before leaving to kick me in the balls as hard as they could so I could come away from the experience with something memorable.

I watched 'Heist' on HDNET a couple of nights ago, it's a 2001 jewel thief film with Gene Hackman. It's nothing great, gave it a 6, but I bring it up because you would never recognize Sam Rockwell. He's got dark hair combed straight back with a thin mustache, looked totally different.
As far as new rentals, I saw 'Sunshine Cleaning' last night on DVD, same producers as 'Little Miss Sunshine'. I was a little disappointed because the reviews were fairly good. It stars Emily Blunt and Amy Adams as two sisters who start a business cleaning crime scenes. Alan Arkin is the father and is similar to his role in LMS and Steve Zahn plays a married cop having an affair with Adams, she is playing against her normal style of character. It's not bad or good, just OK. |
