Cutler to Redskins in three-way deal? Cassel to Denver?

Cutler to Redskins in three-way deal? Cassel to Denver?

Per yahoo sports:

Quote:
Cutler to Redskins in three-way deal? Cassel to Denver?

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported the Washington Redskins are trying to land unhappy quarterback Jay Cutler from the Denver Broncos. According to the report, the rumored deal would also include the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to the report, Cutler would end up in Washington, Matt Cassel in Denver and Jason Campbell in Kansas City.

According to The Inquirer, the 'Skins are denying they have any intention of dumping Campbell, which shows they were paying attention when the Broncos got themselves into this mess to begin with. New coach Josh McDaniels, formerly QB coach and offensive coordinator for the Patriots, actively tried to trade Cutler for Cassel last month, didn't succeed, then lied about it.

This is going to sound overly melodramatic, but did anybody here have the feeling or sense that the "clouds had parted" with the arrival of Matt Cassel?

Did it make you want to high-five the person next to you and scream at the top of your lungs, "we're really on our way now, baby"!

What I'm asking is, if you throw the numbers and the tangibles and the debates about what constitutes a great QB and the right QB for the Chiefs out the window, where does this guy stand with you?

I'll go first.
The outcome I sense with this guy can best be described as a combination of "competent", "serviceable", and "workmanlike".

Cassel is absolutely several notches above his "competition" in KC , but I honestly do not see this guy setting the world on fire.

I'm a firm believer that intangibles - what is between the ears - are the most influential factor in a QB's success, or failure.

It's why I've never been a big Cutler fan.

It's also why I have HOPE for Cassel. No, he doesn't have a rocket arm. He has prototypical size, but other than that, he's not physically impressive. But he does have the POTENTIAL to posses those intangibles and for that reason alone, there's reason to believe he can still be "it".

I'd hope he is much to busy to waste his time on a BB. I would guess there are some FO personel that troll the boards though, just not the guy in charge.

I guess you never know but I think he's got a pretty good chance at being an excellent QB. With this position, if you're super-talented, people think you'll be Ryan Leaf until you're Peyton Manning. If you're a little less talented but have a good head for the game people think you can't get over the hump until you're Montana. I think Cassel's a good bet and I'm comfortable seeing how he'll pan out.

Denver loses - Cutler, 1st round pick
Denver gets - Matt Cassel, Clinton Portis

Washington loses - Clinton portis, 1st round pick
Washington gets - Cutler, larry Johnson

Kansas city loses - Cassel,Larry Johnson
Kansas City gets - two 1st round draft picks (12th,13th)

The trade would happen when KC is on the clock IF Detroit passes on Matt Stafford.

IT WON'T HAPPEN. Each player would have to agree to where they were going and most would probably want new contracts with lots of guaranteed money.

Secondly, Denver is getting killed in that deal. Cutler is going to make like 20 million in the next three years. That's really cheap for a pro bowl QB.

And, if we waited to the third pick to see if Stafford was available, we wouldn't have time to make it happen. A trade that complicated would probably take months.

Nice thought but I don't think you need to get excited about us calling you Nostradamus for a while...

I would trade Cassell for Cutler straight up in a heart beat. First off, he's cheap. 20 million for 3 years. that's what's left on his contract.

2nd he's the best young QB prospect in the league. he's a pro bowler with big stats. and the knock on him is his interceptions but his int to passes thrown % is really not bad at all. I think it is like 1 int for every 33 passes. He's an athletic QB too.

yeah... he's way too cocky, but he will grow out of that. I thought everyone wanted to have a QB with some cockiness??? you would probably be pissed too if you were a pro bowler and the owner and head coach both lied to you.

Stats are stats, stats don't win championships.

I don't think Cutler has "it". He doesn't have moxy - he doesn't have the intangibles, the thought processes, needed to be a champion.

As I've said in the past, even though I'm reluctant to label him this early in his career, he reminds me alot of Jeff George. Or even Elvis Grbac.
