John Dorsey reportedly candidate for Packers GM

Yeah, that would suck pretty ****ing hard.

Quote:
When the Packers face the Giants in Sunday's wild-card game, the focus will be on the field. But the future of the man who built the Packers is one that is being fiercely debated in Green Bay. How long 63-year-old general manager Ted Thompson, with two years left on his contract, continues in his current job is an open question.

Now, an intriguing name has emerged as a potential successor: Chiefs GM John Dorsey.

Dorsey, a former Packers player who cut his teeth in Green Bay under Hall of Fame architect Ron Wolf, has not yet signed a contract extension, sources said. He's in the final year of his deal, potentially opening the door to him leaving what he helped build in Kansas City to work at Lambeau Field.

Sources said Dorsey is incredibly well-regarded by the Packers executive committee, including President and CEO Mark Murphy, from his time as a scout, Director of College Scouting and Director of Football Operations. Timing would have to be perfect, but if Thompson steps away to take a senior scouting role as some involved believe, Dorsey would be in a position to step in this year.

Dorsey and coach Andy Reid have worked hand-in-hand over the past four years to build the Chiefs into a consistent winner, and they are seeded second in the AFC playoffs. The Chiefs intend to give a contract extension to Reid this offseason, a source said. After this year, Reid will be in the final year of his deal.

The list of successors to Thompson is an intriguing one. It includes Director of Football Operations Eliot Wolf, who interviewed this week for the 49ers' open GM job. While he was blocked from interviewing for the Lions' GM job last year, his interview this year means he could be leaving. There is also Russ Ball, the vice president of football administration, who is universally respected in the NFL and by the executive committee. Director of Player Personnel Brian Gutekunst and Senior Personnel Executive Alonzo Highsmith are among the talented members of the Packers' front office.

With Dorsey entering the picture, it adds some intrigue to the future of the Packers' front office.

So they're gonna persuade Eliot Wolf to stay with a higher title and then bring in John Dorsey to manage the franchise instead of him? Yeah I don't see that
Exactly - Dorsey has 10 years in front of him at least and Wolf's not going to stay in GB if Dorsey blocks him for a decade.

I'm not going to call it speculation. "Speculation" is too kind. It's dumb****ery is what it is. That dude at the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel should be fired for awful journalism.

Yeah, thus far, this has turned out to be nothing but throwing shit at the wall. Could it happen? Sure. But earlier in this process people were saying his contract ended NOW, and now it's after the 2018 draft. This made sense if it was "Dorsey hasn't been extended and now his contract is up" but over a year out, it's perfectly reasonable to not have an extension in place.

If we get to this point a year from now and Dorsey still hasn't been extended, we can start worrying.

I don't think Dorsey would have left Green Bay if he was interested in succeeding Thompson as GM, unless Thompson four years ago was giving no indication that he would be looking to retire relatively soon.

Wolfe Jr. is getting promoted with a fat raise and the the DOPP just signed a new deal, too.

Dorsey isn't going anywhere.

That said, I expect Clark to give big extensions to Dorsey, Ballard, Reid and his staff all this offseason.

Pro Football Talk: Le'Veon Bell is a Likely 2017 Free Agent Consideration for Chiefs

BY MIKE FLORIO

The Chiefs are going to keep at least one of their top running backs, but the future of their starting RB could be decided from outside the organization.

With Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West still under contract but Jamaal Charles recovering from a season-ending injury, it would make sense that either Ware or West would be Kansas City's starter moving forward.

But according to SNR of Chiefs Planet, the “best bet” for Charles' replacement could be Steelers RB Le'Veon Bell.

There are a number of factors at play here. Unlike the idiotic notion that Kansas City's GM would make a lateral move to Green Bay and that the Chiefs would willingly let him sign with the Packers, Bell is actually a ****ing free agent at the end of the year. Kansas City could use a better bellcow, so it makes total sense for them to bring him aboard. However, they can only do that if the Steelers don't tag Bell.

Ware has been doing just fine for the Chiefs, but if John Dorsey wants someone with more experience, Bell could be more appealing to them..

There are a lot of plates spinning here, but it’s clear that this idea makes way more sense than publishing in your ****ing newspaper that your "best bet" for replacing a GM position on your team that hasn't even been ****ing vacated yet is somebody who's had a lot of success with a different team, is working with one of his best friends throughout the years, and is currently under contract for two more NFL drafts.
