Albert/Joeckel perspective

How would you feel if the Chiefs had the #2 overall pick and packaged it and Albert for Joeckel? Because that's what the Chiefs are on the brink of doing.

#1 pick = 3000 points
#54 pick = 360 points

difference is 2640 points

#2 pick is worth 2600 points

Chiefs are going to invest 3000 - 360 = 2640 points to replace Albert with Joeckel. It could be a good deal for the Chiefs if 1) Albert is out of the league in two years, 2) Jockel is a HOFer and 3) the alternatives (like Geno) don't have very good careers.

Why?

You can talk about how long ago it was invented as much as you want.

That has nothing to do with the fact that you can map the trades that occur on the chart with nearly a 1:1 correlation.

The ultimate compensation is decided on the players available, so you'll either be above or below the line, but you'll be in the ballpark.

I don't see how, or why we can't either take geno 1.1, Wilson or E.J. In the second (from Albert trade), or bray - jones in the third. We need a rookie QB anyway, trick shot and fabio are dead space on the rooster

I wonder if they're good enough friends for Reid to use Jaws to drive up interest in a trade.

I don't think their indecision is because they can't decide. I think their indecision is in trying to evaluate three options: 1) trade Albert; 2) trade out of the pick; 3) stay put and not get any picks. And choosing between the three options is dependent on how much your trade partners are willing to dance, which we may not know until a few minutes into the draft.

Unfortunately, players in that position rarely go back to their original team to say "You guys were right, I was asking for way too much". Some guys get so butt hurt that they end up taking less money somewhere else than what their original team was offering them.

But that he's looking for big money shouldn't even be up for debate. NFL.com just said in the last few days that Albert was looking for a "monster" contract. That's the strongest terms I've seen it put in yet. Other reports this week said the Chiefs told other teams what kind of money Albert was looking for. How many stayed interested? One. Out of desperation.

There is nothing, up to and including common sense, to suggest that Albert's just looking for a nice reasonable deal and it's everyone else's fault he hasn't gotten it.
Well said.

To add to your point, Miami probably figures now that Albert knows he's got basically 1 team to negotiate with that he'll probably wise up in such pie in the sky contract demands, and possibly play the hometown card to come to a more reasonable deal since that's where he lives in the offseason.

Hell, you may be spot on, in them getting him to sign for a multi year deal for less than maybe an offer the Chiefs made simply because he fears the looming shadow of KC looking to replace or move him down the road, and factor in the added take home $$$ since FL has no income tax.

Hating the idea of being forced to take an OL guy with 1.1 when nobody even grades out as high as say Joe Thomas, which sucks. But, I'll agree that I don't buy that Alex Smith is firmly planted as the starter for years to come, and they may very well have a guy they are eying that isn't in this years draft that they deem it would be worth making whatever moves it takes to get even if that means moving up to secure his services, and so the priority is to amass young pro bowl quality guys to have around when he comes to hit the ground running. Then it makes sense to take a potential PB tackle who wille will still be in his prime when or if this "franchise" QB comes in to give him the best chances at a cleaner pocket as he learns the ropes and hopefully emerges as an elite QB? Albert certainly would be on a severe decline by then if not retired even. So defer the wasted cap $$ to spend towards younger AND cheaper talent or quality 2nd contract FAs...?

All speculation, yes, but I wouldn't discount the idea that an underclassmen QB isn't already on their radar. Dorsey has had his hand in picking more than a few quality guys in his time with GB...?
