why wouldnt Hill and other fast athletes who can make quick cuts be perfect for soccer?

The part of this that cracks me up is that people have touted a growing wave of soccer for decades, but it still remains a 9th tier sport in this country.

I want to be fully emersed into pro soccer like I am with other sports. I truly do but the hardest thing to get past is the level of play. You can tell it's not the best and at least a few steps below which affects the importance I am able to put on it. I also get annoyed by the extra competitions and cups they play for in the middle of the seasons. Wasn't it the gold cup SKC won a month or so ago?

I do enjoy watching the World Cup because of the level of competition and overall spectacle and am disappointed they didn't make it. They clearly wouldn't have done well but it does make the event more intriguing. I have tried watching the European leagues but I can't get too invested without having a team and because I can't seem to get fully into it because of that I get confused by all the leagues. Is there one that is basically like MLB where all the best players try to play or is that oversimplifying it?

I always wonder what the sport could be like if the offsides rules changed to where there was like a 25 yard line or something so that anywhere beyond that towards the goal the offsides penalty was gone.

Imagine if MLB was split into three independent 10 team leagues, the same done for the AAA leagues as well as down to Single A.

A single 'MLB' league competes with the 10 teams playing a round robin, but with the added bonus that the bottom two of the 10 teams can be replaced in the league lineup next season by the best two AAA teams from the concurrent season. Also the league's teams are in tournaments where they will play teams from the other two leagues during a year, potentially while also playing a tournament against a pool of AAA, AA and single A teams too.

Player wise, any MLB, AAA or lower club can sign whomever they want as a player for their franchise before they are technically teenagers and the club that signs said player puts them into a developmental system to try and train them up.

I have no clue about soccer. Go to a couple of games a year. Baseball players have to be able to make a throw to a base or they don't play professionally. A college QB has to be able to make a throw to a spot before he can even play professionally. A basketball player must be able to pass they ball to a player on the run etc.

I just don't understand why a soccer player is open running down the field can't consistently kick a pass to his teammates without it going long or short half the time. I see it at the World Cup. Why is that a skill only the elite can do in the game?

Anyone who claims soccer players aren't great athletes don't understand the sport, you try controlling a ball without using your hands, while at the same time running for miles over 90 minutes with solid full on sprints thrown around in there.

This... I might entertain the opinion that every year is too difficult for some countries, but at least do it every other year.

The most sensible argument might be that players go on loan from their teams, and that can suck for the paying fan who go to watch their biggest stars, and possibly the Win/Loss columns too.

Coin is one way to look at it, but I think we know there are other ways to judge "rule", and our beloved football would come up way short. Clearly soccer is the world's #1 sport in terms of attendance, in cash it's American football.

That being said, if I had the opportunity to attend a non-Chiefs Super Bowl or a World Cup Final, I'd pick the World Cup final in a second.

I just saw a replay of the Costa Rica Panama match and on the first Panama goal, the ball never crossed the line and they called it a goal when it shouldn't have. That likely ended the chance for the US last night even though they played like shit
