Thanks. Per Wikipedia:
Horus is a god of the Ancient Egyptian religion, most commonly known by the Greek version Horus, of the Egyptian Heru/Har. Horus was an ancient and important deity. He was also the son of Isis and Osiris. Some details of the character are changed or intermixed with other characters throughout the different dynasties and Egyptian cults and religions. The Eye of Horus became an important Egyptian symbol of power. Horus had a man's body and a falcon's head. Horus fought with Seth for the throne of Egypt. In this battle one of his eyes was injured and later it was healed by Hathor. This healing of the eye became a symbol of renewal. Horus united Egypt and bestowed divinity upon the pharaohs who were viewed as incarnations of Horus in life. EYE OF HORUS Horus was told by his mother, Isis, to protect the people of Egypt from Set, the god of the desert, storms and chaos. As Horus was the son of Osiris, and god of the sky, he became closely associated with the Pharaoh of Lower Egypt (where Horus was worshipped), and became their patron. The association with the Pharaoh brought with it the idea that he was the son of Isis, in her original form, who was regarded as a deification of the Queen. Since Horus was said to be the sky, he was considered to also contain the sun and moon. It became said that the sun was his right eye and the moon his left, and that they traversed the sky when he, a falcon, flew across it. Thus he became known as Harmerty - Horus of two eyes. Later, the reason that the moon was not as bright as the sun was explained by a tale, known as the contestings of Horus and Set, originating as a metaphor for the conquest of Upper Egypt by Lower Egypt in about 3000 BC. In this tale, it was said that Set, the patron of Upper Egypt, and Horus, the patron of Lower Egypt, had battled for Egypt brutally, with neither side victorious, until eventually the gods sided with Horus. Horus was also said to be a war god and a hunter's god; since he was associated with the falcon. Thus he became a symbol of majesty and power as well as the model of the pharaohs.[6] The pharaohs were said to be Horus in human form. Anyways theres a lot in there that I'm trying to connect to the Lost universe.... |

So maybe Alpert is Horus in human form? That is an interesting thought.....
On another note...When Locke and Ben left the island and ended up in the desert, were they in Egypt? That would be an interesting connection if it was |

I wouldn't say for certain that the statue in Lost is indeed Horus though. If we could see the statue's face it would be obvious. But there are quite a few Egyptian deities that carried an ankh and had something on their head. And we can't quite see what's in the Lost statue's left hand....

Hate to keep doing this, but Alpert knew who Jacob was when talking about him with Locke in 1954.

I'm pretty sure of that. Maybe its someone we already know though...Lets see it was 1974. That would put them at 34 years old. The baby is a boy. Also he is Caucasian. The only Main Character that I can think of that would possibly fit this description is Desmond or Daniel Faraday... |

It's all very confusing, because Jacob is in the cabin . . . that was built by Horace for Olivia [by blowing up trees???] . . . Only Olivia is nowhere to be seen and Amy is having Horace's baby. And Widmore spent 30 years on the island and Ben grew up there, with none of the O5 running into them in the past three years of their working their way into Dharma society. And how the heck does the important baby of Amy's survive Ben's purge to become so important?

I can only imagine what the indigenous people on the island would have been like at the time the statue was erected. I'm glad the show's producers didn't let the statue mystery die.

Maybe the 'others' or 'hostiles'(i believe that is what they call them in the 70's) take the baby, to be raised by them. It is very confusing, lots of questions to be answered. Every week questions get answered and twice as many question pop up.

Part of me thinks that the "island" and "Jacob" are two different battling entities.
The "island" wants to live in peace and harmony and heal. It keeps drawing in good people to help it. "Jacob" wants to use people to control the "island". At one point the "island" allowed births. After the purge the "island" got mad and was able to kill offspring so that the bad people would die out. The "island" doesn't like Ben Linus, but somehow "Jacob" and Ben were able to make a connection.

I just mind****ed myself.
It is 1974 when Sawyer shows up to the DHARMA Camp for the first time. Now read this Mid 70's - Alpert meets Kid Benjamin Linus in the forest (Ben was Born in the early 60's, Ben was 11 when he came to the Island. My gut tells me this happened in 1973 but could this have happened BEFORE Sawyer meeting Alpert? I.E. is Kid Ben in the DHARMA camp already when Sawyer's group shows up?) |
