Loved the scene of Jon staring down the charge and dropping the scabbard. Like, this is it. Win or die.

Indeed but he has suffered far more than Dany has. He saw his love die in front of him, his father and mentor(s) killed, he made the hard choice for the war to come and it cost him his life. Two of his half-brothers were murdered. Jon deserved a little luck because up to that point, life seemed to have a knack for kicking him in the nuts repeatedly.

Nit picky, to be sure. But c'mon; the guy had an open shot on Snow (who you know he wants to kill) and not only is he allowed to take it, but instead he uses it on a giant that's already going to die.
He did it because his fatal flaw is that he's a sadisic prick. He saw Snow having a moment, and it was more important to take that away.

It is kinda neat to see a small council forming in the North.

Littlefinger, Brienne, Davos, and Tormund as a council. I am sure Davos will also be getting a lordship in the North since his lands in the Stormlands were probably already seized.

Ramsay wasn't smart, and never showed the ability to make the intelligent choice. While he was a good tactician on the battlefield and would have won without the Armies of the Vale showing up, killing Jon wasn't his first priority. He wanted to HURT Jon over and over. When he saw Jon reaching to Wun Wun as he knelt there dying he just saw another opportunity to hurt him. It's the psychopath in Ramsay (the very thing that made Ramsay who he was) - he knew he was beaten but couldn't stop trying to inflict pain upon him. If Jon was dead, he couldn't hurt him anymore.

Yes. Roose pointed it out right before Ramsay killed him.

Ramsay was ****ing awesome. His battle plan was awesome. The way he tortured Jon by killing Rickon....outstanding. Even when he got his ass beat, he was still smiling. He was an excellent villain and even his death was epic.

I was sad to see Wun Wun go. The entire time i was rooting for him and Tormund to live. Thank god at least Tormund lived.

Also, that had to be one of the greatest battle scenes ever filmed.

What the Omaha Beach scene of Saving Private Ryan was to realistic depictions of WW2 battles, Battle of the Bastards is to depicting realisticly what combat was like.

Or so I'd think.

Which I appreciate and hope means she is integral to the final outcome of the story. Because the alternate, and easy route, would be to have her whacked and return to the rest of the story. Just rip the band aid off, cop to the crappy arc, and move on. But they didn't so I'm optimistic she does some cool shit going forward.
This is not true. As part of the agreement with HBO, Martin had to tell the writers how the books ultimately end in case he passed away before he finished them. So I think you are speculating to a degree.

Not really. Most battles were pretty short, over in under an hour, and melee lasted minutes at most before one side would pull back or rout. There simply wasn't enough people to have piles of bodies like that.

Also, Calvary rarely clashed with cavalry.

That was a high budget movie quality battle scene, pretty amazing that it was done for a TV show. I can't think of anything like that done for TV ever.

And because it is GoT and you believe that no character is truly safe, the tension involved in Jon staring down the cavalry charge and then almost being trampled and buried alive was pretty intense. I really thought for a second that they were going to resurrect Jon just to kill him off under a pile of bodies when they were playing the death music and creating that incredible soffocating feeling during that scene, because wouldn;t that be just like GoT. The writers/directors did a nice job of taking advantage of GoT's sadistic reputation to create awesome tension even though the ultimate outcome of the scene was good.
