The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

And that includes spending draft loot to move up and acquire the best LT in the draft.

The unfortunate truth is that even the 'vastly improved' 2013 KC Chiefs are probably a 9 win team at best. You go through their week to week schedule and it's really difficult to get them to 10 wins.

And thinks to the efforts of Scooter, we only have a couple of more prime seasons out of our best players. Hali's going to be running on fumes this year, IMO and he's going to be the first to fall off. Charles will go in a couple of years and shortly after than we'll see Flowers falter (CBs with limited athleticism tend to crash sooner). DJ is older than we all realize and while he plays a position with decent longetivity, he's also probably looking at only 2-3 more seasons of high level play.

Folks - we're 3 years away from another rebuild. And the front office appears content with rebuilding around a !@#$ing left tackle.

This is exactly what the 2008 Miami Dolphins did - I mean to the !@#$ing letter. Right down to picking up an injury prone QB with multiple shoulder surgeries and a history of check-down passing.

They had Joey Porter at 31, kicking ass and taking names...for a season. Will Allen put out another damn solid season...and was out of football 3 years later. Ronnie Brown was in the prime of his career at 27, ran strong....and was a backup by 2011. Ayodele had been a solid starter for 5 years at ILB, had an okay season at age 30 for the 'phins and was also gone 3 years later.

All this team has that the 2008 Dolphins didn't is Bowe. That's it. And the 2008 Dolphins played well for a season, ate shit, and are now rebuilding how they should have rebuilt in 2008. In the NFL, you get old fast.

I cannot adequately express how disappointed I am in the path this team has chosen. It's just clearly wrong.

This is unfathomabley depressing.

Nope. The 2009 Chiefs had just re-stocked their cupboard and committed to a youth movement the year before. They had a lot of young talent and just needed a couple of good drafts and a QB to pull it all together.

This team doesn't have near the young talent on it that the 2009 Chiefs had. The 2009 Chiefs didn't have the first overall pick (they'd have taken Stafford). The 2009 Chiefs didn't go out and acquire an injury-prone veteran QB.

If you'd have taken the team titles off the rosters/transactions and compared the two, you'd have never suggested that the 2013 Chiefs are running an offseason like the 2009 Chiefs did. The only thing that's the same is the name.

The 2008 Dolphins, OTOH, ran precisely this playbook from precisely this position with almost exactly the same roster construction.

And they were wrong.

No way of fixing it from this draft really. I want a QB at #1 as well, but it doesn't exist.

If we can pick up a M. Barkley at #2 after trading Albert then that is movement in the right direction.

Further, I don't think anyone knows what Dorsey/Reid are gonna do with the #1.

A) Can't trade a comp pick.
B) This entire "Trade up for [fallback quarterback]" thing is just doubling down on stupid.

So instead of using 1.1 on the best developmental QB in the draft and retaining our premier pass-blocking LT, we want to trade our LT, using 1.1 on his replacement and then use our 2nd round PLUS more picks to draft a less talented QB instead?

I will be more angry at the Chiefs trading Albert for a pick and then using that pick on a goddamn quarterback than I would've been had they taken a linebacker with it. If they're looking at getting a developmental QB from this draft - take him at 1! Take the best one available and not some watered down fallback position just because you can get him later in the draft. And especially not with the pick you got by trading the person that opened the hole that you used 1.1 to replace! You've managed to downgrade at the developmental QB slot while using more picks and all in the name of replacing a great pass-blocker with a guy that might be good, but history suggests has only about a 50/50 shot of it.

Does anyone else go cross-eyed when they try to process that logic? What ****ing sense does that sequence of events make on any level?

But it makes us need him less. In able to be hard in a negotiation you have to be able to walk away. We wouldn't be able to walk away if we had both Albert and Joeckel.
