I would think that if Reid and Dorsey are close and share a basic approach to football, that collaboration would work just fine. Reid will probably defer to Dorsey's judgment for most of the process relating to scouting for the draft...and Reid might interject more when it comes to free agents, guys he knows, etc.

I think it would work beautifully.

Based on Wally's interviews, it sounds as though he expects the GM (whomever it may be) to dedicate their full-time effort to the task of evaluating players. He, on the other hand, while maintaining an interest in the subject, is too busy with coaching duties to properly assess potential talent. So, when it comes time to decide upon needs and possible fits, the two would collaborate while leaving the "final" decision up to the GM (and, by extension, Clark) based upon the economics. It's pretty clear that's the sort of structure and expectation he has in mind.

Shocking concept, isn't it? The GM/coach have mutual respect and trust each other to do their jobs, and yet aren't so detached as to not know what's going on with the operation. The GM scouts, acquires, and signs the best players...and the coach gets the best out of them.

I hope so.

I know we never want to hear about the Patriot Way ever, ever, ever again.

But this is exactly how they do it there and it works beautifully when you have the right staff to make the right talent evaluations. And it's a much harder job than it sounds.

The Packers were doing business like this long before the Patriots and their stupid ****ing way.

The Patriot way is Tom Brady.

I don't give a shit who did gets credit for starting it. I am talking about the way you can structure your organization to support a powerful head coach without giving him too much power.

Bellichick basically dictates the strategy, but he completely trusts his personnel guys to pick the players. That's what will happen in KC. It's a good model for a guy like Reid to follow.

From a college scouting standpoint, yes.

Pro personnel, Bellichick called most of the shots, but that's not uncommon for a lot of coaches.

The Patriots approach to talent evaluation is well documented.
