Seems like this deserves its own thread. The news will start coming fast over the next week or two, IMO. Recruiting is a 365-day event and we can't afford to be rudderless for long.

Yeah. Recruiting is more important for Mizzou than coaching right now. They can't lock up MO talent at all.

He is well-respected as a recruiter following his time at Clemson and Florida. He was Billy Donovan's primary recruiting assistant.

He's a young, charismatic, dynamic personality who just took a play-in team to the Final Four. He's going to be able to recruit.

If Painter falls through, Smart would be an excellent consideration for Missouri.

This kind of success coupled with a move to a major college program would help a ton... I'm sure a ton of HS prospects are well aware of what this guy is doing, and if they had any thoughts of coming to Mizzou... hiring him could tip them our way.

If we get one of Smart or Painter, it's an excellent upgrade from Anderson.

Painter is 1 and 1a, but Smart has proven a lot these last two weeks.

I don't think it gets that far. But if it does, I'd expect some other unexpected names to pop onto the radar.

The money at Mizzou has been roused and is driving the bus. That's a good sign.

I disagree.

Smart is Anderson but younger. He's the same kind of 'street ball' coach Anderson is, he's just had a much nicer run in this tournament.

If we give Smart big money, we'll regret it very very soon, IMO. I have no interest in any more of this disorganized horse-shit basketball. Bring in someone that can actually coach a disciplined style of play and recruit some guys to do it. Smart's just the current flavor of the month; the guy isn't even winning the damn Colonial conference (and VCU was winning it before he got there). No thanks; he's a bad bad hire, IMO.

Beyond Painter, I'm not sure who's left that fits that bill. Pastner would appear to but I'm not really sure how much credit to give him. If we can't get Painter, I'd look to Dave Rose first, then Jacobson, then Pastner.

It gets very very thin after that, so lets make sure we don't have to worry 'bout it.
