Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

Trading out of the top pick is the best option, considering the strength of this class is not at the top but in the high to mid rounds

That said a trade down from 1.1 is unlikely
It seems it is just boiling down to who the FO likes better between Fisher and Joekel

The Albert trade chatter seems to support the idea that he is not in the long term plans

In the 20's? JFC you're stupid.

Joeckel is easily a better OT than Tyron Smith and Anthony Davis.

He's a Ryan Clady type talent IMO.

My apologies CPers, but it very well might be my fault all along generating all this Luke Joeckel to KC nonsense.

I went down to Texas A&M in November for a Beef101 seminar, and ever since I've had this enormous binder with all workshop materials on the corner of my desk. Cannot believe that just today I cleared off a couple papers on top of it, and lo and behold tehre is a big ass TEXAS A&M logo staring me right in the face!

It was promptly removed and handed off to a Raider fan coworker, left it on his desk.

So now we can move on from this madness!!! Please?!?

The year before that was a normal draft and you're high if you think a GM is taking Tyron Smith over Luke Joeckel.
And in other drafts I think he'd have fallen into the 20s. I don't see anything that makes him clearly better than Bryan Bulaga and Bulaga went 23. He certainly wouldn't have gone ahead of Williams or Okung that year; perhaps Davis but that's no guarantee at all.

He'd have gone behind Monroe in 2009 but before Oher. In 2008 he'd have gone at 14 to the Bears instead of Williams. It's hard to say in 2007, but I don't see anything that makes him clearly better as a prospect than Joe Staley was and Staley went 28. Same problem in 2006; no comparable talent. In 2005 he'd have gone after Brown; probably to the Rams at 16 instead of Barron.

I'm sorry, but I'm not buying this 'surefire top 10' shit. The draft for tackles just hasn't been falling that way and Luke Joeckel, the 2nd best LT on his college team, isn't clearly better than guys that were falling into the teens and 20s.

If you have to stoop to calling someone stupid, you've already lost the debate.

I said "strong tackle class". So why bring up 2011? That wasn't a strong class at all. Let's say 2009. I think most would agree that was a strong tackle class. He's probably off the board sometime after Michael Oher at 23.

You want to compare him to Clady? That's fine. Clady went 12 in a class that was basically Jake Long and a bunch of guys. You've just said he's the equivalent of a player that was drafted 3 picks ahead of Albert. Thanks! That's proving our point for us.

He'd have gone 14 to the Bears. That's one of the few things I can look at from those last several drafts and just say "yup - there's his spot".

That draft does as much to make my point as any other draft out there.

Joeckel's just another good LT prospect. He's not exceptional by any means.

And how has Clady turned out again?

In this draft, that type of talent is a HUGE win.

I think Joekyl is drafted before Oher.

Good news if Chiefs draft Luke Joeckel? The other 3 offensive lineman taken 1st overall were each selected to at least four Pro Bowls.
