The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

Generally agree with not taking a LT (just keep Albert), but I don't like this argument. Reminds me of people who argued that Royals weren't winning with Carlos Beltran, so how much of an impact is he really making --- may as well trade him.

Browns drafting Joe Thomas was a great decision, period. It's all the other decisions around him that have caused them not to succeed.

EVERY playoff team last year drafted a 1st round OT. 9/12 teams were starting LT's.

Comparing Miami's 42nd pick vs their 54th pick, there's not much of a difference IF the Chiefs are interested in a QB in that round. Even the 42nd pick is BEHIND all of the teams needing a QB.

I believe the 2nd round will be where most of the QB's are taken. That being said, the following teams are ahead of pick 42:

Jax
Philly
Arizona
Jets
Buffalo

In other words, just do the trade. Those 12 spots aren't that significant.

He's done his job and it's made no difference to the overall success of the team. They were essentially the exact same team after he arrived as they were before he got there.

I rarely have seen anyone suggest one of the defensive linemen, at least not lately. There's the pro Geno group of course, and I sometimes see Fisher over Joeckel. Not saying it hasn't happened....it's hard to keep pace with most of the draft threads running through CP.

Actually, it's a great comparison.

Cleveland could have taken the QB at 3rd overall. God knows they needed one. Instead, they took the safer pick at LT. Later, they traded back into the first round to grab Brady Quinn. If Quinn had been a probowler, everyone would point to Cleveland as a genius franchise. But he fell for a reason, and he busted for a reason. If that happens to us with Joekel and, say... Nassib, then we'll be just as ****ed.

God help us if that's what happens to us.

As little as Dorsey appears to think of the QB's this year I doubt he'll be trading up to take one...

The issue is not, nor has it ever been that OTs aren't worth it as first round picks.

The issue is taking them at #1 overall.
