So, yesterday a combination of boredom and annoyance forced me to cut a 5inch by 5inch hole in the top or side, depending upon your layout) of my "repaired" xbox 360.
This is a busted xbox that a friend let me have since he already had a new one. I took it apart and did the xclamp fix, which solved the RRoD, but it likes to overheat for some reason (another friend of mine has had his like this for a year and it runs perfect). Originally following the fix I did the 360 would run perfectly, then it would start to overheat after 2 hours or so, then it got to be about every 20 minutes or less. Part of the problem I have, I suspect, is the imperfect fit of 2 plastic washers that I used (out of 16). They apparently catch on the threads of the screws so that when I loosen the heat sink a tiny bit, they hold tight to the screws and remain tight and actually tighten the heat sink down when I try and loosen it (on 2 of the 4 screws). I got around this the last 2 weeks by taking the entire shell off the 360 and playing that way with a fan pointed directly at the GPU heat sink (worked). The problem is that it is ****ing loud without the shell, I mean it is loud with the shell, but imagine it without the shell on the ****er. In the end, it seems cutting this CD case size hole in the top of the 360 right about the GPU and aiming a small fan directly into it works great (for now). I am going to look around for PC fans that may fit this size and are USB powered, you know, so I can class it up a bit.... I was just wondering if any of you have had to "modify" your 360's in similar fashion, or have friends who have. I know it sounds stupid and is a lot of work, but in the end it is kind of fun to tinker with the thing and know that it was free and was going to be thrown away. I am also trying to fix a 360 for a friend that no longer reads discs. I need to flash the replacement drive with the #'s from the original drive, but I haven't gotten around to this, yet.

I have it, I love it. VERY underrated as far as I am concerned.
It's not very good at first as far as gameplay goes, but as you unlock more moves, it becomes ridiculously fun. You just dance slicing through enemies (and it's the bloodiest game ever created, you can slice an enemy in ANY way imaginable, chop off any part you want, finish with the most gruesome moves ever). Some of the bosses can be VERY frustrating before you figure out how to beat them (you can read online to make it a cakewalk) and that's where a lot of people tend to give up on the game because it just pisses them off at certain points. Music and art are amazing and probably the strongest suit.

I probably should hold off, since I also picked up Red Faction: Guerrilla and Wolfenstein, but moderation isn't my strong suit. |

I lost my drive a while back, but I know how that can be. It's addictive.
