Need advice on cutting cable cost.

My last bill from Att was $215...sick of paying that much to watch only a few shows. I dont want to cut the cord from cable entirely. I would like to keep basic cable and internet, but still be able to watch the shows I like on HBO and showtime. I`m already a netflix subscriber, any other suggestions ? Can you buy season passes for most of the shows on HBO and Showtime?

Thanks!

trakt is one of those addons where it works when it wants. On my Kodi HTPC, it installed seemlessly after a reboot. On my fire tv and my Gotham HTPC it took mulitple installs/unintalls and enable/disable to get them to work.

Alright so I bought a Amazon fire tv so I can stream stuff being a person that refuses to pay for cable and all. Once I get Kodi installed on this what scripts do I need to add to it?

Like what are your guys recommendations as the best ones?

First, install the Fusion source, per instructions here: http://www.tvaddons.ag/fusion-installer-kodi/

Then install the Addon Installer from Fusion: http://www.tvaddons.ag/addon-installer-kodi/

Then launch Addon Installer, and browse to Featured Addons. That will let you install addons per a nice GUI.

I recommend these addons to start:

Genesis (definitely the best)
Primewire
Icefilms
Sportsdevil
USTVNow
YIFY
NaviX
Phoenix

That will be a good start...

You do all of that within Kodi.

Give this a try: https://seo-michael.co.uk/how-to-man...devil-on-xbmc/

Note that Sportsdevil is currently under redevelopment. That's why it isn't available through Addon Installer. It still works for the most part. And should be updated soon.

The Kodi program by itself doesn't give you access to any online streaming of movies or TV or anything. For legal reasons. It's simply a glorified media player. The magic happens when you install add-ons to Kodi. Which are essentially little Python apps running within the Kodi app itself. Once installed, you launch the specific addons within the Kodi app, and that's what gives you the Netflix style GUI of movies and TV to stream from various sources.

The instructions explain how to install an app within Kodi that will then let you select which addons you want to install, along with other maintenance type stuff. There are hundreds of addons available. The ones I listed are the best ones to start with.

Just follow the instructions closely, and it will make sense...

Thanks.

So now that Fire TV has the ability to hook up an external HD.....will I be able to play movies off it straight out of the gate? Or will I need to install all of this stuff?

Get this: http://www.jocala.com/adbfire.html

It's a Windows/OS X app that allows you to communicate with your FireTV and do all sorts of things. It allows you to install FireTV Android apk files(sideloading), in addition to installing Kodi addons, and sending/retrieving files back and forth. Load that, connect it to your FireTV, then push the .zip file to the FireTV. Then you can load it as a zip per the instruction.

If you really want simple file access, use the AdbFire app to setup SFTP on the FireTV, then use something like Cyberduck or WinSCP to drag and drop files and stuff.

I can further explain if you have questions....

You can play movies directly from FireOS if you want. You'll probably have to install MX Player or VLC in FireOS. But once you have a media player, you can just directly play movies that way.

But I'd still highly recommend setting up Kodi per the instructions. Once you experience Kodi in full glory that's all you'll want to use. It will scan your movie folder, and auto download artwork/DVD covers/info for all your movies, and list it in a nice pretty Netflix style list.

Nice. We aren't cutting cable just yet....but I want to be able to show my wife that she can still watch all of the same shit (for the most part) without having DirecTV.
