Chiefs sign Matt Cassel to multi-year contract

http://chiefsblog.kansascity.com/?q=node/855

By KENT BABB
The Kansas City Star

Kansas City has the player it sees as a potential franchise quarterback, and now the Chiefs have Matt Cassel locked into a long-term deal.

The Chiefs have signed Cassel to a multi-year contract, a source told The Star on Tuesday. Terms of the deal have not been released, although the team is expected to announce the deal today.

Kansas City acquired the 27-year-old Cassel in March when it traded this year’s second-round draft pick to New England. The Chiefs also acquired linebacker Mike Vrabel in that deal.

Cassel had signed a one-year, guaranteed contract earlier this year with New England – the Patriots tagged the quarterback their franchise player before the trade – that would have paid him upward of $15 million for the 2009 season.

Cassel, a seventh-round draft pick in 2005, took over in Week 1 last season for the injured Tom Brady after the former NFL MVP suffered a season-ending knee injury. Cassel started 15 games, and New England won 11 contests in 2008.

Yes, you were. By throwing out the combine performance that everyone knew was less-than-adequate, but not acknowledging his pro day performance that helped propel him into the top 5, you were definitely spinning the matter.

Good point. By showing exactly what I said I was showing, which was the first results of a simple internet search, and having one of them point to a performance where Sanchez seemingly displayed a poor throwing arm AND which served as a response to a post attacking me because of my earlier use of McShay quote by noting that it was not just McShay who felt that way, I was clearly just using "spin", and not noting a questionable arm being pointed to by more than one person at the very top of the search.

Did someone put LSD in the water out there today or something?

One of the pieces of evidence JPB was using was a Jets player saying that Sanchez's arm strength wasn't Favre-like.

Is Cassel's?

Seriously, we should put this entire conversation behind us. I'm going to vomit in the privacy of my own home if Sanchez goes on to be an All-Pro and Cassel drinks from the dick sock. But it's our dick sock now, and we should hold our collective noses and swallow.

Wait...

He struggles mightily with the deep ball, especially the deep out.

Are you claiming that he can't reach on the throws, or that he's inaccurate? They are, after all, two different things. Of course, since the answer isn't his ability to get the ball deep (See Chiefs v. Patriots, week 1), you must be talking accuracy.

Even Rich Gannon hit on a few deep balls.

I'll agree to that.

Did Greinke get to pitch, and how'd he do?

Yes.

Kicked ass. Perfect inning. 10 pitches. 2 Ks.

At this point, I'm thinking that high is better than right.

By the way ... I just want you guys to know that I carved a watermelon like a pumpkin last night. I made a very scary face with triangular eyes and a mouth with three teeth. Upon the completion of this extraordinarily emotive and dramatic art piece, I stepped back in order to take in the full impact of my work. I was able to do this without tripping over a chair ... and then it hit me like a diamond bullet right in the nutbag ... watermelon-o-lanterns are far more scarier than pumpkin-o-lanterns. I think it's the green color combined with the lighter green stripes that provides the incredibly naturalistic effect. It's as though the watermelon-o-lantern is the real-life, actual decapitated head of some sort of swamp monster with a terrible complexion. Anyhow, I swore right then and there that I'm switching to watermelon-o-lanterns this year. Who's with me?

So Cassel threw for 400 yard games by throwing 5 yard passes? That looks like a clutch QB on that play and also thats a play Thigpen wouldn't make.
