Ted Ginn on the block

I think he would fit extremely nicely as a slot receiver/KR/PR. I imagine the Tuna would require a 4th or maybe even 2 of our 5ths. Would you pull the trigger?

Well, to be fair to Ryan, there were some circumstances that lead to the struggles. The running game wasn't there through a lot of the season because Turner and Norwood both missed a lot of time with injuries. Roddy White held out through most of camp and took a little time to get back up to speed. Ryan had the turf toe injury mid-season and didn't play all that well from then on. Atlanta's defense was pretty bad, so Ryan was frequently playing in catch up mode.

If they can get over the injury bug and Atlanta can get some defenders, Ryan should have a great season next year. The Saints will probably take the division but Atlanta should be in the mix.

That sucks.

I would've gladly given up a 5th for the guy.

Ginn's still a deep threat and a good 'vertical' returner. He catches and runs into seems. He'd have continued to be a good returner, IMO.

Look at the roster slag you usually get with 5th rounders. For a guaranteed plus kick returner, good occasional deep threat and possible developmental speed WR, a 5th is a no brainer.

5th Rounder

Adam_Schefter

RT @MattMaiocco: In '07, 49ers were THRILLED when Dolphins took Ginn at No. 9 (SF took Willis at 11.) Now they're giving up No. 145 for him.

I heard many a rumor that the Chiefs were going to give up a 5th for Ginn. I'm surprised they didn't.

Say what you want about Ginn, but that was more than a fair price.

Conceivably, we could have gone into 2010 with the following WRs:

Bowe, Chambers, Holmes (minus 4 games), Ginn

Seems as though I have multiple outside threats and a slot/KR/PR as well.

Oh, and I still have a fifth round pick.

Nothing this awesome will ever happen to the Chiefs.

But man you want to talk about restoring some faith, if Pioli had dumped two fifth rounders for Holmes and Ginn, wow. People around here would be sucking his Cannoli.

Alright - I'll go on record now.

Ginn will be a far FAR better player than the guy that the Chiefs take with their 5th this season. I'll have to develop a more complex barometer for 'better' when I see who they take, but I'm pretty comfortable with that.

5th rounders over the last 10 years:

Colin Brown (doubt he ever sees an active roster)
Brandon Carr (big time win; would eat crow)
Kolby Smith (sucks, has always sucked, don't get the love)
Justin Medlock (ugh)
Marcus Maxey (did he make it out of camp?)
Alfonso Hodge (I have no idea who this person is)
Jordan Black (I-75, I believe it was?)
Fujita (another big win and would eat crow)
Billy Baber (forgot this guy was a TE, I was thinking Monty Beisel in my head...)
Dante Hall -- ladies and gentlemen: Ted Ginn as a jitterbug.

Ginn is a lateral returner, he catches it and runs forward. He's also lightening fast and has okay size. He's a guy that could have certainly been a major weapon for us and the odds favor him being a far greater contributor than whoever that 5th would've have been is. He's still young, he's an athlete, and in 2008 he looked well on his way to a breakout 2009.

He was worth a 5th round gamble. Never had a doubt Pioli would pass on him though.

Seriously, let's just say that Cassel gets his second (undeserved) year:

Well, you could have come out of this offseason and added this to your team via your draft picks:

1: Berry
2: Daryl Washington
2: Koa Misi
3: Joseph
4:Tennant
5: Holmes
5: Ginn
5: Lindsey Witten

I don't even want to think about what an offense with Chambers, Holmes and Ginn does to a defensive coordinator. The safeties would be permanently affixed 10 yards+ from the line of scrimmage on most downs.

Charles would rape.

You could run off coverage on damn never every down with Chambers and Holmes, while Ginn runs drags underneath and roasts linebackers trying to chase him, and Bowe works the middle on slants, posts and curls.

Coverages would be soft, all game long, so Cassel could throw WR screens to his heart's delight.

Charles would destroy every defense in the league on draw plays.
