The Evolution of the Planet

I think to understand the nature of the problem that exists here today it is important to reflect on how we arrived here. For those that don’t know, ChiefsPlanet was created to get around the vast restrictions placed on posters in KC Star. It was a huge success right off the bat and we were rolling. IMO those first months we ended up with a lot of really great posters and only a couple bad ones. As time went on CP has attracted more and more people who love not having restrictions and unlimited subjects to discuss which was great other than the fact that that many thought those threads were polluting the forum with people arguing all the time over subjects that didn’t even involve football. I posted a poll asking the membership if they wanted another forum for off topics and it passed by a landslide and the people who run this BB were gracious enough to create it and DC was born.

That has worked for a long time now with this almost no holds barred format. Once again this type of forum has been attractive to people who love the open debate that can take place here but unfortunately over many years it has attracted more and more trolls who like using the structure here to do nothing more than try to get under posters skin and will do anything in order to do that. It’s also allowed posters like frazod to thrive here being the poster child of bad psychology. Talk about no boundaries with a strong desire to bust in others and dump. This has attracted more in the like, can anyone say KCN? The trolls have grown as well in this forum in a kind of perfect storm way. What we have today is a forum saturated with trolls and posters with the psychology of a 13 year old psychopathic girl on her first period. IMO this is costing us many potential good posters who would make this a better place to come to and has also seen us lose many quality long term posters. To complicate matters the moderators that reside here are fine with posters posting anything they want about you and your family members short of a racist remark heaven forbid just as long as you don’t do it to them which is now creating two different cultures that exist within the planet. If they think that it is hostile now they haven’t seen anything yet should this persist.

IMO at this point nothing short of a cleansing designed to rid the planet of trolls and bloody vaginas that have no control is exactly what this place needs to regain its former greatness. There was a time when I posted a thread about a family member and their battle with cancer and asked for prayers and support. Today there is no chance of me doing something like that here as I have no desire to see somebody post the nastiest thing they can think of at that point. For the old timers it should be easy to see the huge difference in where we were and where we are now. My 2 cents.

Another characteristic of the board: not much discussion just for the sake of discussion. Everybody has to be 'right'. Although it's always been that way to a degree. I miss posters like Hawaiianboy, though they've always been few and far between.

thanks to phillip for getting my point. It was the most basic way of dispelling any notion of right/wrong and avoiding getting to deep into a Sanchez discussion. Not an argument for Qb rating. I know it's a worthless stat if games aren't watched. OTWP is INTENSE! and Hardcore! he should join NEPAchiefs.

Whereas I think we're probably going to see an evening out. I expect the playoff defense to be better than we've seen the last month (particularly with Houston back and well-rested) and I don't think the offense can sustain the pace from the last two games.

But I digress...the main point is that the first nine games of the season seem to be a strangely distant memory. Like folks have already forgotten that we got to 9-0 basically solely because of the D.

That's a good point. I don't exactly see Screaming T0dd and Pioli as patient mentors to a young QB. Looking back I have a hard time seeing a young QB growing under that staff.

I can also see the Tim Couch argument with some QB's. Different team, better supporting cast, perhaps a franchise QB...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I was referring to his individual performance, compared to his (awful) play in NY. I think he may have been an even worse QB here than he was for the Jets, because the Chiefs had virtually none of the strengths that allowed the Jets to carry him. How that compares to cassel is basically irrelevant, for the reason you mention.

While it wasn't Utopia by any means it seems like more people were called out for dumbassery.

I remember I posted a thread about my Dad getting ready to pass and someone posted something inappropriate (I don't know what it was because it was removed before I read it). Almost the entire board publicly busted his chops for being an asshat. He apologized and quit being one.

There were other instances of this too, some learned from it and others just pretty much got ignored when they didn't learn (without an ignore function).

Maybe it's because of the rep system but you really don't "see" people being called on inappropriate/unpleasant comments so much, they just get neg repped and there is no public humiliation in that so why care how you post.

Of course I could be all wet too.

Well, because right now, we are all offense and no defense.

And as much as people are trying to cling to the false narrative of Houston's injury being the genesis of poor defensive play - it's just not true.

If you remember there were some of us, myself included - that said it was unrealistic to expect the defense to perform at a historic level - especially considering the randomness of turnovers, which we were living by.

Those concerns were met with resistance, but have turned out to be well founded.

I don't think Houston returning guarantees the defense returning to form - mainly because it really wasn't playing that great before he was injured.

I saw some speculation yesterday that made me shake my head:

"If Houston didn't get hurt, we'd be 13-1 right now."

To which I responded, "On the flip side of that, if we hadn't faced a run of 4th string QB's, we would have been 6-3 leading into the bye."

Anywho...to your point...

I think any rational fan realized that the D would only carry us so far. I think the offense has a much better chance of sustaining their play than the defense of raising theirs - and that is based solely on our upcoming opponents, and the strengths of each team.

Once again I agree.

I was on the "wait and see" camp with Cassel, but it didn't take me long to switch to hating him. I even hated him during his "Pro Bowl" year.

He seems to be doing pretty well for the Vikings now, but I have only watched a few plays and I can't stand to even look at the guy.

It could be another mirage though, like 2010s results, instead of seeing how it happened.

As for how things have changed, I don't personally think much about it. There's a natural human tendency to look back at the "good ol' days" fondly and remember all the good stuff, but ignore all the bad stuff. ChiefsPlanet isn't any different.
CP has evolved to the personalities that have joined CP, that said some posters have have evolved and there are some that have not. Same as in life. I have yet to use the ignore button but there have been days where I log on and just shake my head and go to another web site.

Actually that really isn't true. His strength was always the play action pass. You pound the rock with Charles and then play action to Bowe.

This. Is banning obvious trolls the same as being a dictatorship? We don't filter language for the most part, and everyone is good if they talk sports. The trolls are what created the herd mentality that's nearly put an end to rational discussion.

I know part of the appeal of this site is that we don't weed out football, but perhaps it's time to start a non-sports forum that is not moderated, putting DC, pictures, and media as a subforum of that. Then having a sports forum that is somewhat moderated.
