**Official MU Head Coach Search Thread**

Seems like this deserves its own thread. The news will start coming fast over the next week or two, IMO. Recruiting is a 365-day event and we can't afford to be rudderless for long.

My vote - Cuonzo Martin.

Discuss.

He'd only get fired if Painter left, IMO...but I guess it's possible.

Unless he's pulling a "it's either him or me" deal with boosters. Saying "Even if you let me go, with Burke here you'll never be able to attract and keep good coaches. I'm a Boiler through and through, and yet I can't work with Burke. What does that tell you?"

Now, I'm not so sure those stories about Painter having problems with Burke aren't being overblown. And it's probably quite difficult to orchestrate an AD ouster on short notice, with an MU deadline ticking away.

I'm just trying to imagine every angle, every possibility -- particularly the ones that involve MU losing out.

I'm not trying to be an ass, but what the ****?

Why would Painter leave Purdue for anything other than money? Surely this is just him trying to get paid.

Maybe it has already been posted, but I just read on a Purdue board that they are one of only four athletic departments in the country that are completely separate from the university when it comes to funding.

So for example, they can't raise Painter's salary by $700K, and then raise tuition or other such university revenue to help pay for it.

They need athletic department cash, or boosters to come in big time. Considering that Painter just got a brand new contract last year, you would assume that the coffers have already been tapped for the most part. Maybe Painter sees the writing on the wall that Purdue cannot compete with other top schools in terms of resources.

There also may be issues of BB budget (i.e., recruiting). That would dovetail with the report that Painter wanted to talk about MU's commitment to BB.

Getting back to this, a poster from Purdue's premium Rivals site has said there is an email group where there is discussion in detail of a huge rift between Painter and Burke, but won't go into details on the board.

In addition, apparently the Purdue President was very upset with Painter's last contract that was given one year ago, bumping him up to $1.3M.

Upset? Because he didn't want them to get it? Or that it wasn't enough?

That it was too much.

She apparently isn't real big on athletics.

So $1.3MM is pretty much their ceiling.
