Malaysia Airlines loses contact with plane carrying 239 people

Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with a plane with 239 aboard enroute from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

The airline said in a statement early Saturday it was attempting to locate the Boeing 777 after it lost contact with Subang Air Traffic Control at 2:40 a.m. It was scheduled to land in Beijing at 6:30 a.m.

China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported the plane was lost in airspace controlled by Vietnam, and did not make contact with Chinese air traffic controllers.

The plane is carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members. The airline said it is working with authorities to locate the plane.

Boeing said on its Twitter account it is monitoring the situation, and "our thoughts are with everyone on board."

They have not searched the pilots house

- some question about a facebook picture, that the co-pilot had a flight simulator in the home and the gvt official said that its not uncommon

- Working with other governments

- Search area is progressing and widening in all direction as each day passes

- 100 gvt employees are with the families to keep them informed/ comforted

I just don't get based off the evidence that has been released, that they can deem this a hijacking.

I'm starting to wonder about the copilot. The pilot's been around too long. The copilot is a younger guy, and could be more susceptible to being recruited. Or possibly he let the wrong women into the cabin.

I still think there's a good chance that it was also a flight attendant. You open the cockpit door to get your dinner and they let bad guys in.

There's nothing out there at all. Why in the world would you hijack a plane and then do that? That's just weird.

Do you think we get the news report of "the plane is shown in a hijacking demands video" or "pieces of the aircraft has been spotted in the ocean"?

I would normally bet on the latter, but if this is Vegas, I might think about putting something down on the former.

You have to start with the fact that a catastrophic electrical failure that would knock out the transponder, then a communication system 14 minutes later, no word or distress call, but not knock the plane out of the sky for several hours, is very unlikely.

The plane started doing weird things as soon as they were off civilian radar (they did not know about the military radar), climbing way above what the plane is rated at, then falling back to a normal height, turning west, making precise navigational maneuvers to follow known air travel lanes, etc.

It has hijack written all over it. Perhaps it was unsuccessful or they ran out of fuel, but its hard to believe that was a malfunction.

yeah, that is weird, and kinda messes with the stealing the plane theory.

If that proves true, then it starts to point to a suicide, with an agenda. Pilot wants to die, but not be known as a crazy guy or killer, and makes it look like it mysteriously vanished, never to be found. Like some kind of "asian triangle". Maybe envisioning legends springing up about the plane that disappeared.

Remember, he doesn't know about the military radar, he thinks he is cleverly avoiding all detection flying through areas he thinks are not watched, and he wants to take it far, far, far away from where they would probably search, and he's got to quietly and efficiently kill the passengers so they don't phone home.
