Wanna know how many times Diaz would have to go up there and make a completely unproductive out to have a lower OPS than Kozma managed?

49.

Diaz could go up to the plate 48 more times and in those 48 ABs manage to do absolutely nothing - not reach base on an error, get hit by a pitch, ground into a fielders choice....really he should probably just strike out all 47 times up there. And if that's what he did, he'd STILL have a higher OPS than Pete Kozma.

**** me running, Pete Kozma was just absolutely awful.

And to the surprise of absolutely no one (but Matheny), Pete Kozma is presently getting his ass kicked by AAA pitching, having been sent down to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre by the Yankees where he is sporting a .000 BA with 5 strikeouts in 11 at-bats.

Yep, Tony ****ed that situation up royally. Same thing with Rasmus. Absolutely killed his trade value for no reason.

2004 no one was beating the Red Sox. 2005 was the lost that shouldn't have happened. Maybe the most pure talented team ever, at least in this era.

Larussa was a grumpy old man at the end of his era. But, he got us 2 WS championships that no one saw coming. At the end of any era world championships are what its all about.

Mark Mulder's bruised labia cost us the 2005 World Series.

We traded a kings ransom for that pussy to make ONE start - absolutely nothing else that would've happened in his entire Cardinal career would've mattered had he gone out there in Game 6 and been the stopper we traded for.

Instead he gets a bad call at 2b and a seeing eye single through an oddly shifted infield (holding the 1b bag with Ausmus at 1st) and he just came unglued. He stopped throwing his breaking ball and just started floating BP in there.

We should've won that game and if that happens, with the momentum of that W and the Pujols HR off Lidge at our backs going into game 7 at Busch during it's final season, the Cardinals would've won it.

Ugh...eat a dick, Mulder.

I have to disagree on this. Rolen was killing that team, Spezio came through in game 2 & kept them in that series. Not sure what changed after the NLCS, but I still believe Rolen should've been WS MVP. His HR off of Verlander in the 2nd IMO was perhaps the biggest hit of the series, as the Tigers, the media & their fans were all selling this "Tigers in 3" bs. Cards bats took off after that.

Yeah, those 04 and 05 lineups were just nasty. As you've stated, had Mulder not went all Jaime before Jaime jaimed, we win that series.

I dunno for sure that we beat the sox, but damn

Though before you go too crazy, let's not forget that the 2005 Cardinals weren't really a deep pitching staff (Marquis and Suppan at 3/4) and their bullpen wasn't lights out by any stretch with Julian Taverez and Al Reyes as our setup men. Reyes was hurt by the playoffs. Even the offense was taxed by the playoffs as Rolen was out for the playoffs and Sanders was constantly dinged, leaving Abraham Nunez and So Taguchi as our replacements for them. And with Grudz and Eck up the middle, it's not as though we were getting plus offensive contributions from them either.

To me, the '04 squad was the better squad and by a fair amount. Renteria and Womack up the middle, a healthy Rolen, Williams as our #3 and a better version of Morris on the staff. Eldred, Kline, Calero and Haren out of the 'pen. The '04 squad was a wrecker of worlds but losing Carpenter for the playoffs screwed us. If we have him out there to take Game 1, it changes that entire series.

I think the 04 team was probably the best cardinal team of my lifetime.

Walker in the 2 hole, Pujols Rolen edmonds sanders Renteria Womack etc. Stacked lineup

I miss Steve Kline, he was one of the last true goofy ass relievers the Cards have had. That nasty ****ing hat and his willingness to scrap were both awesome. I heard a story that he and Matheny got into it over pitch calls and they scuffled in the locker room, don't know if it's true and I can't remember where I heard it.

I was there; sitting right above the HR ball that Jason Lane hit.

It didn't really matter though; Mulder was barbecued by the sequence in the 3rd. It was all over but the crying at that point. He was so unnerved by grounders finding holes (the two singles to start the inning weren't well hit either) and the missed call at 2b that he just gave up.

Interesting side not - Jason Lane all but disappeared from baseball after 2008 and then resurfaced as a pitcher to make a spot start for the Padres in 2014. He went 6 IP and only gave up 1 ER. Managed to take the L anyway because he was pitching for the Padres.

He mostly got his ass kicked in 2015 and shut it down for good.

I never did understand how a dude that hit 26 HRs as a part-time starter in 2005 was essentially out of baseball 2 years later.
