The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

There was a time when Jim Cleamons was a hot coaching commodity due to his ties w/ Phil Jackson and the Bulls.

The problem with Clark Hunt is that he conflates the most "sought after" with the best. Given his level of access, if he were competent that would not happen.

I just can't agree. He made the financial commitment to guys, who at the time they were hired, looked like home runs. It didn't work with Pioli and was a ridiculous disaster, but I can't be mad at him for the decision he made in 2009.

If Hunt went after some lesser known candidate, it would have been he's too cheap, he just wants to fill seats, so the guy is damned if he does or damned if he doesn't in regard to all of this.

I personally think the product on the field will improve dramatically, but just like what happened in 2009, it wouldn't shock me if it's a disaster either.

No, DaWolf is right. The Browns owner wanted Mangini and then tried to sell Pioli on a reunion with Mangini, which wasn't happening.

Scott Pioli, Patriots vice president of player personnel, is believed to be very interested in the Browns' general manager job and is expected to interview for the position soon, multiple league sources told The Plain Dealer on Monday.

The Browns have been granted permission by the Patriots to interview Pioli and could talk to him as soon as today. Pioli also has been contacted by either the Kansas City Chiefs or Detroit Lions and will interview for one of those jobs as well, a source said.

The interviews will be the first Pioli has accepted since he joined the Patriots in 2000. He was granted permission to interview with two other teams, but he declined both. In 2005, the Seattle Seahawks, despite not formally interviewing Pioli, offered him a five-year, $15 million deal, which he turned down. He also declined a request to be interviewed by the New York Giants in January 2007.
