And furthermore, what exactly is the endgame for this argument anyways? Does it matter to either school if one or the other is bringing in an extra million or two? All of these schools are making boatloads of cash! I suppose if it makes you feel like a winner on a message board you can argue whether the exact numbers have significant meaning and pat yourself on the back. In the end though, Missouri did what was best for them both financially and more importantly (as has been pointed out to you two morons) for long term stability.

Fans (especially internet smack champions) are by and large oblivious to the fact that this was a business decision. Anyone who thinks that screwing over Kansas or the Big XII had any role in going to the SEC is a goddamn idiot.
The idea that MU leaving an athletic conference would negatively impact Kansas is laughable.

MU fans wanted this yes, but KU and their fans knew it would never be an issue for us.

Now the fact that KU is making this much MORE $$ than before? Well now, you can argue that is a bit of a surprise yes.

-edit... now if Oklahoma and Texas were to leave then we could talk about problems for KU. But anyone with half a brain knew this was never going to happen. Big Dogs in college athletics don't go to conferences, you come to them.

The primary motivation of Chancellor Deaton and other administrators wasn't to screw everybody else and relegate rivals to the Mountain West or etc. This was a stability issue, plain and simple. Missouri had a chance to play its own cards rather than sitting around and waiting to see what Texas did (and how everything shook out from there).

The movement of Texas A&M and Missouri (as well as Nebraska and Colorado) and resulting instability forced the Big 12 to change some of its operating policies, including how Tier 1 and Tier 2 revenue is split, to survive.

If schools like Iowa State like the money they're receiving under this revenue model, they can't demonize or mock the schools that left. It probably wouldn't have happened this way otherwise.

It also looks more and more like the SEC Network is going to be a significant financial windfall that compensates SEC schools at an extremely high level. I don't buy the $500 million-to-the-conference stuff that's being thrown around, but I could see $250 million ($17.5 million per school). Even at $150 million, you're still looking at $10 million+ per school. That's impressive T3 rights money for everyone except Texas (or at least was the last time we saw T3 numbers thrown around).

Long-term, that MORE than makes up for 2-3 years of getting $2-3 million less in revenue for Texas A&M and Missouri (not sure if that even plays out that way, though... my understanding is each school's cut is $20.9 million this year, but that is before bowl revenue is distributed).

EXACTLY!!!!!

Small world, big pot: Kansas basketball is becoming an international brand
Sean Keeler Fox Sports

Last year's Jayhawks had two, both at center stage: Andrew Wiggins, a native of Canada, and Joel Embiid, who hails from the African nation of Cameroon. The two are widely expected to be among the top three picks in next month's NBA Draft.

But the Jayhawks kept the international flavor going last week when they announced the signing of Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, a 16-year-old, 6-foot-8 combo guard from Cherkasy, Ukraine, who has already been likened to a young Dirk Nowitzki.

Over a span of two winters, the hearts and minds of the 785 area code, the bread basket of basketball, the most old-fashioned American of old-fashioned American college towns, could be won over by a Canadian, a Cameroonian and a Ukrainian.

Welcome to the United Nations of Mass Street. Rock Chalk, Bangkok.

Bluebloods are moving over, too. Kansas, like its peer programs in Chapel Hill and Durham and Bloomington and Lexington, can pretty much get first dibs -- and no worse than second -- on any domestic talent it really, really wants. Even Townsend admitted he probably wouldn't have given a second look to a 16-year-old Ukrainian a decade earlier.

This only going to get bigger with the exclusive ESPN3 third tier deal that Zenger cooked up.

What an incredible move. Immediately in the homes of 85 million Americans and basically unlimited coverage online. I said it would revolutionize college sports when it happened. So far... So good.

This is high hilarity considering those schools were this >< close to joining the Pac-12.

No they weren't. Schools of that importance would never join another conference.

What makes me think this? History

Only loser schools move conferences.

Still burns your ass that pissant, no national title having Missouri was picked to go to a power conference over the school that gave birth to college basketball, doesn't it? All those titles, all that prestige......and no interest in the mighty SEC (or PAC-12, or ACC, or Big X.....) taking you on. How does it feel to be ignored like that?

I'm glad I don't have to wonder about the worth of my college when it comes to sports.
