Need recommendation: Cashew Chicken, Springfield MO

So, I have a very good friend going through a tough spot in life. We were talking today and I told him I need to run to Springfield on Wednesday. He sort of hinted he could ride along and that he had heard Springfield is like the mecca for cashew chicken.

I know zero about cashew chicken but he was so into it, I said, ride with me, grab a lunch after I get my business done and be home by 430

So.....now that Im committed, give me your best shot where to go for lunch

I’m sure someone has tried to healthy it up at some point. But, yeah, breaded and fried every time I’ve seen it.

I spent 20 years in Springfield before moving back to KC. I still would order ten other dishes before I’d order cashew chicken. It’s just boring tasting.

I also never got the appeal of Mexican Villa. You either love it or hate it and it turns into a heated discussion depending on who you’re talking to.

We did Canton Inn

For the record, Cashew Chicken may be a hit for some but Id order almost anything else. Panda Wok has better food.

And we decided the Mexican place would get us next trip

Yeah the kind I’ve had is unbreaded and does nothing for me. Way down the list of things I would order from a Chinese restaurant

I've been eating at the Villa since I was a wee lad. It's unique but if you're looking for what a lot of folks call authentic Mexican food you might be disappointed. Whether you like burritos, sanchos or enchiladas they're all good but the one thing there that is special is the hot sauce. There's nothing like Mexican Villa Hot Sauce. The sweet sauce is special as well but the hot is my favorite Mexican style hot sauce. We keep both the hot and the sweet in the fridge and no matter where we get our Mexican food I always put the Mexican Villa Hot Sauce on it.

Mexican Villa is the most boring, unseasoned fake "Mexican" food in the entire state.

Because of course the midwest twist would be to take an existing non-American dish, and deep fry it...

Went to their website and pictures. This is the first pic that came up.

Kinda plain Jane but I moved through the next 119 and looked pretty good. Id give it a go but would not got to Springfield without a stop in for my delicious cheesy Tex Mex delight Sancho enchilada style. Its a tradition discovering it while working on the new ringroad for Wilson Creek National Battlefield. That was late 70s into the eighties.

Yeah Cesars Old Mexico is good. If I'm wanting authentic Mexican I really like black beans and rice though and Cesars doesn't have the black beans.
