Do you think anyone will ever hit more than 61 Home Runs again?

Closest recently is 58 by Ryan Howard a couple years back.

What do you think?

I'm not making a poll, just post your answer.

I think baseball should encourage steroid use and allow fights similiar to the way Hockey does it. It would be more entertaining.

Well, if you are asking will anyone break the record then yes, that is the better question.

But other than these 6 individual season

73 Barry Bonds, San Francisco (N.L.) 2001
70 Mark McGwire, St. Louis (N.L.) 1998
66 Sammy Sosa, Chicago (N.L.) 1998
65 Mark McGwire, St. Louis (N.L.) 1999
64 Sammy Sosa, Chicago (N.L.) 2001
63 Sammy Sosa, Chicago (N.L.) 1999

Nobody has ever hit more than 61. Those 6 individual seasons are tainted, so I am just asking if anyone will ever break the 61.

Here are a few of the closest since 1961, other than the 6 already mentioned.

58 Mark McGwire, Oakland (A.L.), St. Louis (N.L.) 1997
58 Ryan Howard, Philadelphia (N.L.) 2006
57 Luis Gonzalez. Arizona (N.L.) 2001
57 Alex Rodriguez, Texas (A.L.) 2002
56 Ken Griffey, Jr., Seattle (A.L.) 1997
56 Ken Griffey, Jr., Seattle (A.L.) 1998
54 Mickey Mantle, New York (A.L.) 1961
54 David Ortiz, Boston (A.L.) 2006
52 Willie Mays, San Francisco (N.L.) 1965
52 George Foster, Cincinnati (N.L.) 1977
52 Mark McGwire, Oakland (A.L.) 1996
52 Alex Rodriguez, Texas (A.L.) 2001
52 Jim Thome, Cleveland (A.L.) 2002
51 Cecil Fielder (A.L.) 1990
51 Andruw Jones, Atlanta (N.L.) 2005
50 Albert Belle, Cleveland (A.L.) 1995
50 Brady Anderson, Baltimore (A.L.) 1996
50 Sammy Sosa, Chicago (N.L.) 2000
50 Greg Vaughn, San Diego (N.L.) 1998

Don't you find it somewhat amazing that other than those first 6, which are questionably tainted, nobody else has ever got the 61?

Not sure why that's amazing. Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa were great power hitters who probably took some very effective steroids (just like most of the pitchers they faced).
For the most part, the players on the "below 61" list had access to the same drugs that Bonds, McGwire and Sosa did, but they weren't as talented. But none of this had anything to do with your question.

Eventually there will be another Bonds-like talent, and he will have access to better drugs than even Barry had. That's when you will see over 61 HR again.

Thats 48 years.

Pretty impressive that in this day and age nobody has been able to reach 61 (other than the cheaters).

Think about The Ballpark at Arlington, Citizen's Banks Park, Minute Maid Park, Coors Field, and even the same Yankee Stadium that Maris, Ruth, and Mantle hit so many home runs in.
How has nobody hit 61 in the last 48 years? Pretty amazing.

And, I don't think anyone will ever break DiMaggio's record, but nobody thought anybody would break Lou Gehrig's consecutive games played record either.
The old Yankee stadium was redone in the 70's, I think in the old days the right field porch was less than a standard softball distance of 280 feet. Maris benefited greatly from being in that park, Mantle too, which is not to say all of the were cheap, but it would be interesting to see how many they got that didn't travel over 300 feet, which is basically "a can of corn" in even today's replica parks.

That wont ever be broken. EVER EVER EVER.

I think someone will hit 61 home runs. I think 2 or 3 people can do it. Albert is one of course. Arod is the 2nd and possibly Josh Hamilton. If he gets hot, i think he can, but he's a huge iffy.

It's just silly to say some record won't be broken. The modern era of baseball is not even 100 years old and all these records have been broken over and over and over again.

Now, it's true that the only guy who's bested Aaron ought to be erased from the record books, and the game probably has not seen a hitter like Aaron since he was playing. But it will happen again.

Heck, someone hitting 50 doesn't even raise a whole lot of eyebrows. I don't know why 61 is so crazy.

I know it's not silly to say that some of Jerry rice's records will probably never be broken.

Ripken's record will NEVER be broken.

Neither will Nolan Ryan's strikeout record (5,714)

Cy Young's Win record (511) same could be said for the amount of losses he had as well. And Innings pitched 5400+

Rickey Henderson's stolen bases record (1406)

Joe Dimaggio hitting streak of 56 games

Ty Cobb's record of .367 lifetime BA
