Brokeaki had knee surgery again

Hence the Fasano signing.

http://www.bobgretz.com/chiefs-footb...no-a-must.html

Quote:
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid revealed Wednesday that just after the 2012 season, TE Tony Moeaki had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. That’s the same knee where he tore his ACL in the final pre-season game of the 2012 season.

Reid said Moeaki should be ready to go when the Chiefs get on the field for OTAs in May and June.

Moeaki and his injury history were part of the equation that led to the signing of TE Anthony Fasano to a contract that averages out to $4 million per season.

“Tony had a little knee surgery at the end of the season so it’s important that he get healthy,” Reid said. “He’s up here (Chiefs facility) working on that, the rehab part of it. The combination of those two (Moeaki and Fasano) we are looking at as a real positive.”

Reid was always looking for pass catchers among the tight ends, and he had some with the Eagles that put together a lot of catches and yards, guys like Brent Celek, Chad Lewis, Lee Smith and Clay Harbor out of Missouri State.
Fasano knows all about them because he grew up in New Jersey as a Giants fan.

“I watched him beat the Giants a lot with the Eagles and I saw a lot of tight ends have success,” said Fasano. “As soon as they came into play in free agency, I dove into them a little bit deeper and I think they are very friendly (to tight ends).”

Just in Fasano’s 7 seasons in the league with the Cowboys and then Dolphins, he’s seen the tight end position undergo quite a Renniasance.

“You can tell the tight end is becoming a very valuable part of the offense,” Fasano said. “Their roles have changed. The type of player that plays that position has changed. A lot of teams have good tight ends and they seem to be moving around awful fast. ”

Fasano is not one of those new age tight ends; he’s an old-school TE, one that blocks and catches the ball (205 career catches for 2,373 yards and 24 TD catches.)

“I’ve been asked to block a bunch in my career,” Fasano said. “I’ve also had the chance to be a reliable receiver. I think all of that makes for a good tight end, and from what I suspect, that type of tight end is going to be needed in this offense.”
