Official: College Basketball Thread

It's about that time of the year again where College BBall is rolling in. And if your pro/college football team isn't doing so hot, then your looking forward to College basketball.

So, I thought I would create this thread to post about what "our" favorite college basketball team is going to have this season. We'll see how this thread goes.

I am a big Iowa Hawkeye basketball fan. I've been disappointed in seasons past, but I feel very good about this upcoming season. The Hawks starters will include:

Jeff Horner PG: 3rd team All Big Ten. Solid as they come

Pierre Pierce 2G: 3rd team All Big Ten: IMO, one of the best College basketball Juniors in the country. Averaged over 17+ last season as a Soph and is just getting better.

Adam Haluska 3G: Many of you Big 12'ers will remember Haluska. He is a 6'5 combo guard that can fill it up. He was a member of the Big 12 All Frosh team when he played for Iowa State.

Greg Brunner PF: Big Body (6'7, 245) and loves to bruise. Bru' is a tough, hard working ball player that relies on true grit over natural skill.

Erek Hansen C: 6'11 shot blocker. Was the 3rd string C last season, and ended up as the starter midseason. He led the Big Ten in blocked shots last season. Defensive specialist.

Other notables are Doug Thomas, a 6'8 JUCO PF/C that has a 44+ inch vertical. The guy can grab the top of the backboard flat footed. No joke. Also Mike Henderson, an athletic guard will help out, and Alex Thompson, a 6'10 true freshmen will log some minutes. A Ryan Bowen type.

Now for "your" team.

Good posts on Wake and Syracuse...

My Iowa Hawks pulled off another upset tonight. An 82-80 win over #13 Texas. That's two top 15 teams they knocked off two nights in a row.

Tomorrow will be the final test against a solid North Carolina squad that is loaded. I think the Hawks might lose this one, but without a doubt, they will battle extremely hard till the end. UNC better bring their A game.

Pierre Pierce is starting to piss me off. He makes bad decisions and throws up horrible shots. It was hidden by the fact they went in tonight, but one of these nights we're going to see him go 1-10 from three point range. Alford needs to reel his ass in a little.

Unfortunately, I think this is just another year of the Hawks getting my hopes up so they can stomp on them in conference play. Alford has done nothing but put out under-achieving teams since he's been here, with the trademark mid-season slump. I'm going to need to see different to believe he'll do otherwise any time soon.

I agree that PP needs to be realed in a bit. But DAMN, that 25 footer to win it last night was nice.

It's a good thing Jeff Horner is playing like an All American so far.

While there's no denying that Alford has had teams woefully underachieve, the job he did last year with basically a 7 man team gave me hope he's learned from his mistakes.
Having Craig Neal around doesn't seem to hurt either.
But like most Iowa fans, if they don't make the NCAA's, then Stevie Wonder should be shown the door.

Pierre had a bad game last night. He forced a lot of shots he shouldn't have. Funny thing is this....

Pierce had 18 points, 7 assists, 7 rebounds, 4 steals and held his opposing player to relatively nothing. And he essentially hit the game winner.

He didn't play well at all last night, but man can he fill up the stat sheet. He'll learn that he doesn't have to do so much this season as he did last.
