If you listen to several of his earlier recordings (Daddy Sang Bass, ring of Fire, etc...) you could hear their harmonies. mmaddog ******* |

Most don't even realize that Carl wrote many great songs...one especially "blue" song for Elvis Presley. mmaddog ******* |

I'm just saying, a lifetime of seeing the Statlers singing it by themselves, and I identify it a lot more strongly with them, until reminded as you were so kind to do. |

Conway Twitty...duh. John Denver...Who doesn't love "Rocky Mountain High"...and "I'm Sorry" is one of the all time great sad songs. Don Williams....the mellow man rocks my world..."Good 'ol Boys Like Me" and "If Hollywood Don't Need You" are all time favorites. The Oak Ridge Boys...I wanted to be one of them when I was a kid. I have most of their albums. Glen Campbell... "Gentle On My Mind" is pure poetry. James Taylor... Love "Fire & Rain" Gordon Lightfoot... "If You could Read My Mind" kicks Jim Croce... "Operater", "New York's Not MY Home", "I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song" are what song writting is all about I also have and listen quit freqently to... KISS....I have the entire collection minus only a few Alice Cooper... He's like me, a man of many and varied tastes. Marilyn Manson... a dark poet, a mad genius Metallica... God's of Thunder...(other than KISS) Van Halen Def Leppard Nickelback and so on... There's good music to be found almost everywhere.......just not on "new country" stations....or at the Opera. I love Glen Campbell for his picking skills...and Gentle on My Mind was the best example.... It was sad that we lost Croce when he was just starting to do some of his best work. His best song that never got the air play that it should have was "Photographs & Memories"...... BTW, there is some great music on the "new country" stations....you just have to wade thru all the pretend country that they are playing these days....while I am sure it's probably not what you like based on what you've put out there as typical of your favorites in Country music, I still say that Brooks & Dunn have some pretty good music....Alan Jackson is about as close as you will get to the "old" country sound.....and Alison Krauss can eat crackers in my bed anytime. mmaddog ******* |
