I guess you were wrong.

Students march on campus to Myles Brand's (College President) house and burn an effigy of the supposed latest victim of BK (Kent Harvey).

Harvey is the stepson of the recently fired sports shock jock, Mark Shaw. Shaw has the annoying habit of crying about anything Knight does and demands his head at every turn (sound familiar).

Finally and most telling, 12 players on the basketball team have threatened to transfer to other programs now that Knight is gone. Junior guard Danny Fife, "We chose to play for coach Knight. . . . We would definitely consider leaving. Again, it's not a threat, but we came here to play for coach Knight."

Hmmm, odd behavior for a bunch of kids to defend the man that is such an abusive bully to, don't you think?<P>

revolver - Just where and when did BK kick the crap out of a player? I must have missed that particular incident.

Bliss-

Never have I stated that players can't put up with Knight. It's obvious that they can as each year they did.

I stated that Knight was a coward and a bully. I stated that he would be fired.

All are true.

Michael - And does that time equal the amount of time that BK spends with his players? Or is it some simple chance meeting that occurred once or twice?

Knight may be a little short on discipline now, but I'm sure he wasn't always. Keep in mind that Knight is basically a grumpy old fart who has been in a power position for decades and isn't accustomed to being argued with or disrespected. How could anyone have expected him to change at his age?

I do agree that Knight did wrong. But this last incident was bullshit, and none of the others were really all that bad. How many people in his position have been protected, not crucified, in the past? If you want to talk about decades-long abuse of power, let's talk about J. Edgar Hoover, not Bobby Knight. I think this whole thing is both silly and sad.

But I hope Knight lands at Mizzou!

Michael - Slanted..... the players are not "putting up" with Knight, they are defending him.

That is a HUGE difference.

Sorry, your right Wolfman, I think Neil Reed was the only transfer........Wait a minute I belive Luke Recker left too. And I recall a kid named Ricky Calloway played at KU after transferring..... And wait there was a blue chipper that transferred to Ohio State a few years ago. I'm sure thats all of them (that I can think of off the top of my head in one minute and I'm not even an IU or Big 10 fan) Funny how disciplinarians like Roy Williams, Dean Smith, and Coach K can discipline their kids, graduate them (and still retain their players without the problems Bobby seems to have. I guess it must really be a conspiracy.

Of course it was not as much time as he spends with his players. It was however, not by chance, and more than once or twice.

Wolfman-
Perhaps I made myself unclear. I was referring to Frazod's post #5, "I can attest to the fact that a large number of these kids NEED to get the crap beat out of them."
See my earlier posts (for ex. #11) for background on that discussion.

As for Knight, I cannot understand why you still defend the man. If you approve of a coach who is big on discipline, at least support one who can discipline himself!! I'm sorry, but a bunch of drunk college students pining for something to get mad about will not swing my opinion of the man. So what if some of his players support him.... a lot of them don't, certainly not the ones he has intimidated or threatened.

Bubba - If I am wrong, list them. List at least 24 players who have left the program (that qualifies for the minimum amount of "dozens"). I know for a fact that you are wrong.

Prove me wrong and find the elusive 24, otherwise, I stand by the comment that it is a blatant lie.

Frazod-
As for this last incident, yeah you are probably correct. It was most likely not a big deal, and Knight was probably baited into it by some loudmouth brat with a chip on his shoulder. Nonetheless, the fact of the matter is that Knight should have realized this and shrugged it off!! His own past actions had put him in a position where his every move was being watched. Overall, IMO, he should have been jettisoned a long time ago.

BTW--

In post #27 you are the one who stated that I said "put up."

Hence, my response using the same term.

Hey revolver, if you're going to quote me, then don't do it out of context.

The "beat the crap out of them" comment referred to YOUNG MEN IN BOOTCAMP WHO HAVE JOINED THE ARMED FORCES AND ARE CHARGED WITH THE DEFENSE OF OUR NATION, and then only if they NEED IT, not as a matter of course. I do not believe in "beating the crap" out of children.

Any questions?

Wolfman, If I spend my time and come up with 24, will you agree that he is a Bully and it was long past time for him to go? By the way the 98% grad rate is for players that were in the program four years (does not include juco transfers or those transferring outside the program). As far as that being unheard of, I believe Roy Williams record is 100%.

Has Knight received any support from ex-player Neal Reed? How about Steve Alford? What about the guy who accused him of the racial epithet ("you're going to end up like your &^%$& brother...")? How about the Puerto Rican police department? I'm sure his son will just rub his leg and come out on his behalf, though...

Maybe Michigan's "dozens of ex-players" is hyperbole, but Knight has a long list of victims left in his wake.
