Problems with Superman Ultimate edition DVD...

Just an FYI, in case anyone bought the big 14-disk edition...

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/mytwocentsa129.html#dr1

Quote:
(LATE UPDATE - 11/27/06 - 8 PM PST)

Okay, folks. Here's Warner's official statement on the Superman discs:

"Bonus content was omitted from the Superman III Deluxe Edition in the 14-disc Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition. Furthermore, disc one of Superman: The Movie Four Disc Special Edition did not include the Dolby Digital 2.0 mix. Neither disc is known to be physically defective in any way.

Warner Home Video wants to extend apologies to all of our loyal Superman fans who've waited so patiently for these great collections and has taken immediate steps to correct these errors with the intention of standing behind our product 100%.

Replacement discs can be obtained by calling: 800-553-6937. The exchange program applies only to purchases of the Superman III Deluxe Edition in the Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition and to disc one of Superman: The Movie Four Disc Special Edition, available as a single title, as well as in The Christopher Reeve Superman Collection and in the Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition."

Just so you know, we're trying to find out if and when future corrected sets might arrive in stores, and if this replacement program will work for international customers (who may have purchased the R1 sets via Amazon) as well. We'll let you know when we hear anything on these issues.

Stay tuned...

Man, I had to go all the way back to the first post to find out who said it sucked.

I don't think I would go as far as to say it "rocks" but it was great. I still like Superman: The Movie and now Superman II: The Donner Cut the most.

Here is an excellent breakdown of the Donner Cut on Wiki.

14 disks! That's insane. What's going to happen when the next Superman movie comes out? Do they put out a 15 disk collection?

I am really anxious to see the Donner cut now, it sounds so much better.
Why would the 1st idiot chop so many of Brando's scenes??? Huge mistake.

As far as the Superman Returns, i enjoyed it but Routh is no Reeves.

George Reeves? Or Christopher REEVE? Not the same last name... damn. Sorry, that's a pet peeve of mine.

They cut Brando's scenes because of money. And the Donner cut is considerably better. Except for the VERY end. I have problems there...

SPOILER: Highlight the text if you want to see it...

Superman turns back time again... I didn't like it. With the big emphasis made about why Superman shouldn't do it in the first one and what a mistake it would be, why would he do it AGAIN? I understand the reason they did it is because Tom Mankiewicz thought that Clark Kent should never kiss Lois Lane, that only Superman should ever kiss her, and that's why they went with that ending (they scripted both, and Lester used the magic kiss)...

You're probably right (I have 400 movies in my collection and IIRC you have over a 1,000).

But I'd certainly give you a run for your money.

Well, shit... here I am trying to start something and you come on and be polite and shit.

I'm almost to 1,200 now!

On another note, I just read this on that Wikipedia page...

Quote:
In May 2001, Richard Donner underlined his anger over the lack of acknowledgement his (Lester-used) footage had received. Referring to a (Donner-filmed) scene in which Clark Kent is beaten up by a bully in a fast-food diner, Donner told the website IGN:

Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut
There was an interview, and the director who finished the picture talked about how important that scene was to him as a filmmaker, and – believe it or not – I'm in that scene, and I wanted to say, ‘You son of a bitch, you didn't do that scene. Not only didn't you make that scene, I'm in it!’ It was in the parking lot, as the camera crosses up to the diner. I couldn't believe it.

Did anyone order these replacement discs? If so, are they worth it for the missing content at all?

I think what he means is that stories about a flesh and blood human with some unresolved dark and twisted issues are more interesting than stories about a goody-two-shoes alien with ridiculous unlimited powers.
