What is a Chief Fan's # 1 priority

I got off on a rant and was inspired to start this thread topic. I said then that I stand behind CP and Herm that we could be doing a lot worse than what they have done for us to date.

My question is what should be my #1 priority as a Chiefs fan, at least according to the negative nancy's of this BB.

Should it be the playoffs? How about the Superbowl?

I contend that a fan's #1 priority should be a winning record and here is why;

Simply put, look at the odds. The mindset that we should have a playoff or a superbowl bid as a main goal in a season is the same mindset that has led to the success of many a casino owner in Vegas. It's just not the odds you should be focused on.

Two 16 team conferences to two superbowl bids is to far against the odds to hold that as my #1 goal for my Chiefs. Period.

With six playoff bids for a 16 team conference the odds get better, but this is very close to 2/3 of the conference not making the playoffs, again, the odds. If you know more than 60% of the coin flips are going to me on a head to head match up, why would you bet against yourself?? And then complain that you didn't beat me?

If you agree with me, let me know. If you don't try and make a better argument for a different theory.

If you make moves with winning next week in mind you'll never win it all unless that next week is the Super Bowl. Period. In football or in life. If you ran your career by how much your very next paycheck was going to be you're going to wind up underneath a bus. You have to see the goal, formulate a plan that will get you there over time, and then go and achieve it.

Carl's plan was supposed to be over what, 9 years ago now?

Bingo. This threadstarter is a moron.

He's from St. Louis so go figure.

My point is that we suck if we have a losing record, and we should try to enjoy the season for what it is..... a game.

So the outcome of an individual game is not determined by statistical probabilities, but a 16 game season is? My point still stands, each season is based on a series of decisions, drafting a player, blitzing a line backer, throwing into double coverage, not random chance. If an organization, over time, makes poor decisions then fans have cause to complain.

Have the Chiefs made poor decisions over time? Sure. The Arizona Cardinals have been to the playoffs more recently than the Chiefs. Much of the complaining on this board is because many feel that the Chiefs are not improving. The Chiefs have consistently finished with a winning (more than 8 wins) record, but have not improved upon that.

Many board members, myself included, believe accepting the status quo is not acceptable, in sports and in life. You asked another poster if he was a "loser" because he didn't make the most money at his job. I would posit that current status is not nearly as important as direction. Did the person get a raise last year, did he get that promotion, is he continuing to try to improve himself and build on success? An organization that is improving is better than one that has accepted mediocrity as an acceptable status quo.

Take also your fantasy football season, did you waste the year by not placing first in your league or was part of the fun, just playing in the game. Yes you want to win, but my question posed here is our #1 priority, don't take my comments out of context.

Maybe the first couple tournaments he would be thrilled to place in the money enough to cover his entry fee. After that, he would probably expect to place higher, to do better, and to win more money. Otherwise, why bother? He could spend his time in some other pursuit.

I don't play fantasy football, but the Chiefs have met your #1 priority of a "winning" season for the past several seasons. That goal has been met. Time to set a new goal.

I want a playoff and we still have hope this year, albeit a long shot, and no one wants to give out positive energy for a positive outcome. I based this thread on a philosophy that my mother told me when I was young. If I said something negative her response was always “you’re going to speak it into existence”. Of course I never understood this comment until I was older. I have come to realize the power of being positive through life, not only as a human interacting with other humans in day to day life, but also as a husband, a father, a service member, and most recently as a police officer.

I have only been on this site for two weeks, at first I thought the negative comments were just fans venting, we all do it, I joined in. Then during the MU game I started to hear it, “we need another TD to overcome our future 4th quarter meltdown.” This put me into research mode. I looked over the past blogs and noticed many of you do this same thing during the chief’s games. It’s like a race to see who can foresee the letdown first.

This is ludicrous, and like the makings of some movie script, yeah I watched Talladega nights too, but it’s not real. We do put out a good team every year, and they are fun to cheer for and watch every game. Remember the Dallas game, last year. I was there in Irving, TX supporting my chiefs, and it was a great game. I remember thinking as I left the stadium, that there wasn’t a loser that day, but only one team could have won. These thoughts were echoes of what Len Dawson said (I know this because I watched the NFL replay of the game and he said exactly what I thought. Guess what many of you were saying here, do you want quotes from that game too? “I just knew we would blow it, that kicker sucks”

All I was trying to call for was just a little more positive threads, bitch, vent, but lets concentrate more on what we can do with positive vibes too, maybe they really do have an effect. I also would enjoy more meaningful, educated conversations. I liked the recent thread about trading LJ for some draft picks, a very interesting topic (could have done without the “Carl’s a dumbass and he would never do that” comments) Dallas did something similar a few years back and had great results. I don’t want to see LJ go, but if he and his agent are desiring to move to a different team, then Carl could do good by trading him, shore up the line, let Bennett, maybe Priest, and Brown or a draft pick could still put up respectable rushing numbers. This is a great topic that was ruined the other day with all the stupid thrashing – just to thrash – comments.

Can’t we all just get along, we ARE on the same team. (with exceptions to the Donkey and dolt-bolt fans)

I don’t want to be mediocre either, I want to see them win every game, I just also don’t want to be hit over the head for saying, “keep you chins up, guys. We have a good team, Carl has done more good than harm, Herm just started and the players really seem to like him, I think we still have a shot,” etc. You know – positive statements.

it would make sense to know something about the posters, the site, and its long history....we've only experienced the argument about "true fans" and lovers of mediocrity about 6,000 times....but hey, you want to re-invent the wheel...knock yourself out...I'm sure you have an o so original point of view....

A fan's #1 priority for a given season is irrelevent.

But every fan should expect to see his team win the ultimate prize at least once in 18 years of the same organizational leadership of that team.

Every fan should expect more than 3 playoff wins in that 18 years.

Every fan should expect at least one playoff win in 13 years

Every fan should expect his team to at least reach the playoffs more than once in 10 years.

Every fan should see it's team making progress in those 18 years, rather than watch that team stand virtually still.

Any fan that is remotely satisfied with that 18 years of futility, and remotely satisfied with the most recent example of that futility, is, at the very least, easily satisfied.

And if you think that any thoughts we have on the subject has any impact on the performance on the field, you are delusional.

You should set your #1 priority at winning just one game. Because the odds show that in a 16 game season everyone wins at least one game. This way you are never disappointed and we don't put too much pressure on sweet little Carl and Herm to actually accomplish something of note.

You guys aren't alone there are others out there in the US and they help make rules like not keeping score in youth league sports, or suspending a football coach if his team wins by 50 points or more etc.etc. We just need to make sure everyone feels good and nobody loses cause that is exactly how real life works.
