Pay the $15 or $20 per month and get some renter's insurance. The last thing you want is to come home to an empty house. At least the insurance would replace it.

First, is the garage attached? Second, was the door closed? Third, If the garage is detached put a lock on it!
Even in the sticks we lock doors now days. If you are always leaving the doors open you are asking for someone to come in and take your stuff. I grew up in a prison town and in that part of ancient history we left doors unlocked, just never left the keys in the car. Today you can't leave anything unlocked. Should your "friend" have gotten hurt while he was in your garage stealing your stuff he could sue you and probably win. As someone previously said .... ever heard of a padlock? |

You can spend about $20.00 on a couple of fake, but fairly real looking security cameras, mount them on the garage and house where they are clearly visible and I bet this would end if not at least cut down on your
robbery problem. I believe most people will be deterred if their is a remote chance they are being watched. My cameras even have motion detectors that flash and the camera rotates a couple of times to make them look real. So far so good.
