I'm the luckiest mother fucker on earth.

Been drinking since noon, mostly rebull-vodka, went to a buddies to watch KU game.

Driving home, realized on the highway that I got a headlight out, but have day-time-running lights that should cover me (right?)

Wrong. right before I turn into my apartment complex, a cop pulls behind me and puts on the lights. (I shove the container full of controband into my boxers)

"did you know you have a headlight out?"

"um..uh...I just...I known since the highway, was going to fix it tomorrow."

"Can I see ID and proof of insurance?"

I can't find my wallet in my pocket, so figure it must be in my little cooler pull of beer and whiskey. So, while he's shining his flashlight in my face, I reach in, clang around the empty beer bottles and find nothing. It's on the seat next to me.

"how much have you had to drink tonight?"

"um...hardly...n-n-nothing at all."

"where you coming from?"

"um...uh...watching the game at a friend's house." He takes ID and goes back to his car.

Meanwhile, I swallow the drugs in the container in my boxers, followed by some water (shit stuck in my teeth), and light up a cigarette.

He comes back. "where you headed?"

"I live right across the street, right there"

"When you gonna get that headlight fixed?"

"uh...um...first thing tomorrow, sir"

"I'm gonna give you a warning tonght. You better get right home, because I can smell some serious liquor on your breath."

"Thank you, sir"

"Have a good night."

"You are my best friend!" (yes, I actually said that)

and now I'm home to do some serious celebrating!!!!!

eh, an incredibly stupid thing to do. Unfortunately, that's the issue with being human: we're not perfect and prone to mistakes... as long as you don't make a regular habit of it, and actually learn from the mistake, you're alright. you're just INCREDIBLY lucky you didn't seriously hurt anyone or yourself to learn that lesson

KS and MO cops were so much more lenient. I was with many friends who talked their way out of DUI's 20 years ago when I lived there.

Out here in CA they don't mess around. Plus, in the Midwest you could get an attorney to work the charges down in exchange for fines and diversion.

They don't do that here in CA.

I remember the last Wed. of the month at the OP Court house used to be parking ticket night. If you had a speeding ticket you would go pay the judge double the fine to reduce it to a parking ticket. That way the city got the cash instead of the insurance companies.

Be careful my friend. None of my friends changed their behavior until the Police did finally haul them in.

3 years later I am driving home pretty drunk from a titty bar in town and a sherriff pulls me over says I'm driving erratic. (for the record, I WAS).
He pulls out the field tester and I blow a yellow. Tells me that it doesn't mean that he can't take me in. I begin my polite routine and he lets me go. 3rd miss.

I have since quit drinking and have no desire to start again. I figure I had my 3 and out. I have used up all my chips and next time it would probably be time to pay the house.

Don't need that.

For the record. On the second stop I did NOT go straight home. I went straight to the bar and drank there for 3 hours and then went home. Really fuggin stupid on my part.
