New Homeowner! - Page 3

After endless months of waiting, the BNC and I finally closed on the new house in Naperville on Thursday. Spent the day at the new place - getting things delivered and set up (including the satellite dish :D :D :D - NO MORE GETTING STUCK WATCHING BEARS GAMES EVER!), and starting the painful but rewarding moving process. Spent the whole day out there - it really sucked having to come back into the city tonight. Won't actually move for real until the end of the month.

I still haven't quite come to grips with how great it feels - still can't quite believe the place is actually mine and not some greedy bloodsucking landlord's. Parked in my garage today - finally the days of my car getting endlessly pelted with birdshit :mad: are almost over!

I also can't come to grips with the money I'm spending - seems like every time I turn around I'm dropping a grand on some damn thing or another (today, almost $1100 for friggin window blinds). The credit cards are starting to melt. I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end, but the crap you never think about sure adds up.

And another cool thing - my new next door neighbor is a fellow Chiefs fan! What are the odds of that happening in suburban Chicago? I'll take it as a good omen (or if the season goes to hell, it'll be nice to have someone to share my pain with who isn't hundreds of miles away). Of course, the first object I moved into the new place was my Marcus Allen autographed mini-helmet - he got a kick out of that.

Anyway, I'm a pretty happy camper tonight. Will be even happier come June 1st. :cool:

Thanks, Brad and Mack. I too look forward to refinancing, and also will not miss paying anything for my landlord.

The future wife and I are [i]still[/i] unpacking stuff from our move weeks ago, and a no end is in sight. We got killed by the dual bills last month so we are completely and utterly broke right now, but things should get better from this point on. Be careful of that if your utilities overlap at all (we had two weeks that overlapped and added, literally, hundreds to our monthly bills).

There's so much stuff to do, it's just insane, but I'm sure you already know what I'm talking about...

Enjoy it though, it really is nice to have a place that actually is yours. Sort of... ;)

A belated congratulations on the house!

We're getting ready to dip our toes back into the pool of refinancing. I'm just waiting until next week, let the latest rate downturn from the Fed trickle down to our bank and then move.

We were at 7.75 when we bought 2 years ago. Looking to get a 7.12. That'll cut about $400 a month off the mortgage. Huzzah!!!! :D :D

Unfortunately, I can't put up my satellite dish. We have a really nice lot but it's got BIG trees. The only way to get Direct TV would be to top three of them. Somehow, I have to weigh watching the Chiefs vs the $1500 they want to trim the trees and haul them off. Guess I'll be listening to them on the Internet again this year. :(

I hear you Kyle - hell, we're broke right now. The BNC just recently started working again after being unemployed for a month-and-a-half, and won't bring in another check until the end of the month. We've been abusing the credit cards like red-headed Bronco fan stepchildren - I'll be paying those g#ddamn things off for a while. Hope the Wedding Bunny brings lots of cash.... :D

As for the utilities, I don't think I'll have a problem - I've already advised all of them that I'm out of here on June 1. I also have the added advantage of having different utility companies at the new place - so paying those bloodsucking fucks off for any inadvertent overlap will NOT be high on my list of priorities.

Too bad about the dish, but the good news is you have big trees. My property ends at the walls. Of course, there is no moving, raking or shoveling snow inside the walls, which I'm kind of cool with.
