Juice Fasting for 30 days?

Anyone ever try it? Four of my friends have done it and lost about 30lbs each. But for some reason I am not sold on it. Any help?

there are benefits to fasting. Not losing weight really fast, but there are benefits, you can get rid of all the toxins, it's a good aide to help you quit an addiction and there are others as well.

I used to mix up a glass of whey protein shake and milk for breakfast when I was dieting. It seemed like a good idea, a good amount of protein, low fat, low in sugar. I mixed some psyllium husk in it too to add fiber. It left me full until lunch time.

I didn't say that was juice fasting. I didn't specify the amounts of protein in each serving, so how can you know whether or not it's too much?

You're WAY off base on soy protein. It's a great protein. It needs to be ingested in moderation, but as a supplement to a diet (not a base), it's very good. I'm guessing you're coming from the bodybuilding side of things that generally ridicules soy protein as being completely worthless. There are some good articles about the benefits of soy protein on bodybuilding.com and other websites. You should check them out.

The most recent one I talked to is Dr. Bernd Friedlander who just happened to work with the Olympic team, the Raiders and the Rams at different times. Soy also stimulates estrogen production. Don't let that stop you from acting like an authority on the subject though.

Whey protein is loaded with high levels of amino's. This is a good thing except when you put "lots" in front of it you overload your kidneys and liver which is a bad thing. You know you have too much when your pee gets all foamy. I'm sure you knew already though.

Troy I know we don't exactly get a long on here but one thing I will say is you know your shit about nutrition

Question: do you know of any pitfalls to the use of rice milk/cheese? I can't use regular milk cause I'm slightly lactose intolorant....just makes me rally gassy and I used soy untill I hear about the estrogen thing so ....

Okay, I won't, because I do, in fact, know what I'm talking about. Head on over to Pubmed. There are several studies done in relation to estrogen and soy protein. The phytoestrogens in soy protein produce the postive effects of soy intake, such as reduced LDL cholesterol level, enhanced thyroid efficiency, and reduced risk of heart disease without the negative effects of actual estrogen production. So, you can have the positives without the negatives such as weight gain.

I'm well-aware that there are negative side effects to soy protein. Some of them are taken care of in the isolate formation process. I don't recommend taking in a lot of soy protein for the exact reasons that you say it's bad. But it does have several health benefits. It's got lots of nice Omega-3s. But, like I said -- moderation is key. But to say that it's the worst thing in the world is absolutely crap, and I'm sure you were just exaggerating to make a point. Not sure why you have the crappy attitude about it, but whatever. I'm not taking it personally.

Like I said -- you have no idea on the amount, so you can't make an accurate assessment. But just FYI, "lots" corresponds, in my case, to slightly less than 1 gram per pound of my bodyweight. Is that "lots" for a bodybuilder? No. Is it lots for a person that doesn't really do much exercise? Yes.
