Hindsight poll: Should King Carl hired Mike McCarthy instead of Herm?

We had our choice of any coach that off season. The Chiefs job was considered the best of all the open NFL jobs.

Should have King Carl hired McCarthy over Herm? Or someone else other than those two former Chiefs assistants?

Is McCarthy getting credit for Farve's rebirth? Is he resonsible for the Packer rebirth?

Is it too early to decide on Herm yet?

True. I've been of the opinion that Fa-vah-ra's off-the-field problems had a bigger impact on his game than people like to admit. As everyone knows, he's threatened to retire several times of late. Things have to be pretty bad when a guy like him considers retirement - especially when he still has the juice.

But you're right. For the past 4 or 5 years, Fa-vah-ra has seemed almost uncoachable when it comes to slinging the football willy nilly and it's cost his team some games. Maybe McCarthy has simmahed him down some.

Nevertheless, they started a youth movement a few years ago (I think this is one of the reasons Fa-vah-ra has been so testy) and it takes time for young guys to develop - so you have to consider that a factor. Plus, it doesn't hurt that the NFC as a whole and their division in particular sucked this year. This may be another one of those bottled lightning deals. The NFL would love to see Fa-vah-ra end the Pats' perfect season in the Super Bowl. What a story that would be.

Umm..no I am a die hard Chief fan.

The Pats did get lucky with Brady. He was a 6th round pick and heck he wasn't even a starter with Michigan.

That is not to diminish Brady and his abilities I think he could be the greatest QB in NFL history before it is all said and done.

Brady started every game his junior and senior years.

But even if McCarthy had been on our radar back when Herm was hired, our GM's past philosophy and draft record wouldn't be working in a favorable manner as it is for him in Green Bay...

Good coaches can do a lot, good GMs can do a lot, the combination is killer... but aside from Carl's ability to manage the business side of things and keep us out of cap hell, we don't have either...
The Chiefs could learn a lot from the Packers organization, Mr. Chieficus. Still, they've had their down years too. The bottom line is that every successful team you can name has been constructed primarily through the draft. Unfortunately, our draft history is pitiable.

I remember laughing at a comment Fa-vah-ra made a couple of years ago. He was a little pissy and was questioning his commitment to another season and mentioned that he had "looked around the huddle and didn't recognize anybody".

Well, Cassel was drafted by the Pats after 4 years of backing up Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart. He's the only college player to back up two Heisman winners. Then, in NE he was 3rd string behind two more Heisman winners, Doug Flutie and Vinny Testeverde.

Brady battled for the first string quarterback position with Drew Henson and ultimately started every game in the 1998 and 1999 seasons under Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr. During his first full year as starter, he set Michigan records for most pass attempts (350) and completions in a season (214).[9] Brady was All-Big Ten (honorable mention) both seasons and team captain his senior year. The Wolverines won 20 of 25 games when he started and shared the Big Ten Conference title in 1998. Brady capped that season off with a win over Arkansas in the Citrus Bowl. In the 1999 season, Brady led Michigan to an overtime win in the Orange Bowl over Alabama, throwing for 369 yards and four touchdowns.

Henson might have played some, but he was always the backup while Brady was there.

I think the problem lies in the draft as well as the development (lack thereof).

At this point, I'd be happier if they had hired Nick Athan instead of Herm.
