Use "Postage Paid" Envelopes to mail a brick to junk mailers

Dear Bulk Mailer,
Please find attached to your no-postage-necessary envelope, this brick. I figured with all these great junk mails you send me every month, you'd like something in return! I know it costs twenty cents for every ounce I mail to you, so I hope it doesn't weigh too much more than an ounce.

Q: How much does this cost the recipient?
A: Junk mailers PAY about twenty cents an ounce. That means an eight pound package COSTS THEM about $25. And all of the proceeds go directly to the United States Postal Service.

A: Just don't send hazardous materials (ie batteries), or things considered unhealthy (ie dirty underwear). Seriously, no dirty underwear.

A: Any -- and every -- junk mailer that gives you a postage-paid envelope.

Q: Where do I get free boxes?
A: Be creative. Shoeboxes, boxes you buy things in... Even paper works if you tape it up neatly. Just make sure everything is nice and neat, and doesn't resemble some sort of unibomber contraption, and you'll be fine.

Q: Can I use this to get free postage to recipients other than junk mailers?
A: No. That is illegal, and you're stupid.

A: DO NOT SEND ANYTHING HARMFUL OR ILLEGAL. This is supposed to be fun and entertaining, and you should not hurt anyone in the slightest. For instance, hurting a spam company in the wallet is good...hurting a person in their mailing room is very, very bad.

I do it, BTW - all the time, I just stuff the application back in the envelope and send it back to them. Everything they sent me.

Oh - and telemarketers, Whoever they ask for, even if its the wrong name, I just say - "yeah, they're here, hold on and I'll go get them for you." then I don't come back to the phone until it starts to beep.

This "junk mail" business is huge. If junk mail stopped, Paper companies, printing companies, and the companies who sent the junk mail would go out of business.

Even though they may be annoying, they affect a lot of companies in a positive way.

So just toss it, no need to be a dick and cause companies to pay hundreds of dollars just for a laugh.

So are you telling me that 20 seconds of your time (looking at, opening, and throwing away the letter) is worth the lets say $50 of postage you are going to make the company pay for sending back your heavy shit?

I have to **** with spam email every day. I have to listen to spam phone calls every day. And of course the junk mail. Hell yes I'll fight back. Just stop it already.

Maddox (Bestpageintheuniverse.com) did something like this on his site, or blogged about it, to me its just too time demanding to package shit up and send it back......the idea's funny thought, but IMO youre just wasting more time getting back at them then it does to sort thru it all and pitch it in the trash.

If you dont know what those are, its checks, that can be written that are linked to your Credit Card.

I paid off the balance of that card and will never use it again because it has like a 23% rate.

So if somebody stole my mail, they could just use one of the checks to purchase something.

That makes me angry.

I agree,as the owner of a direct mail publication full of coupons,we will gladly remove an address from our mailings if requested to do so.We've had less than 10 though in 18 years but I think alot of that has to do with the fact that our coupons are to local merchants and not true junk mail as in ordering checks,dishtv,have you seen this child,etc
