New Yankee Stadium possibly a disaster?
http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog...e=olney_buster
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4080195 http://www.accuweather.com/news-weat....asp?#extremes Interesting articles on ESPN and other sites. Its early, but we may have an explanation for those high-scoring games in New York. Apparently the configuration of the seating may have inadvertantly created some sort of wind tunnel effect blowing to right field. Rival team scouts have sent the word out around baseball that Yankee Stadium now plays more like Coors Field. ![]() ![]() That may be exciting for fans, but the Yankees may have screwed themselves with their $1.5 Billion-dollar ballpark. If you want to compete, you do NOT want a hitter's paradise. Good pitchers are rarer and harder to sign as free agents than hitters. You can find a lot of servicable hitters and a few superstar bats every year, but only the best teams have good pitching. If the new stadium plays short, the Yankees could have problems getting free agent pitchers to wear pinstripes. There are plenty of wealthy teams that play in good pitchers parks. |

Yeah they were talking about this after the 22 run game. Some of these balls being hit out just look like pop flies. I think it is different because the park faces in a different direction than the previous one. So they might have really created a jet stream factor for an already short RF fence.

This just made my night even better; Flames win 4-2, and the Yankees wasted a billion and a half dollars to build Coors field v2.0

You would have to see the numbers over a whole season, it could just be the conditions there over a few days and that one inning generating all the talk couldn't it?

One of my best friends who lives in New York has already been to the new stadium. He says it sucks, and despite the massive price tag and endless knobjob the Yankees are getting from ESPN over it, the place is nothing special. While I'm sure it's better than its shit-pit predecessor, for the money, it seems they got screwed. And now this on top of it.
Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch. ![]() |
