? for handgun guys.

Opinions of Taurus Model 617 double action, 7 shot revolver, .357 Mag, 2.25” barrel for my CCW.
Alternate Taurus Model 444 double action, 6 shot revolver, 44 Mag, 3” barrel but this is a little more gun than I’d really want for CCW.

I've got a Taurus 617 2inch ported barrel that I dearly love; for some reason I am more accurate with it than my other weapons. I also have a Glock 27 (sub-compact .40) and Glock 30 (sub-compact .45) that I wouldn't part with. A few more trips to the range for practice and proof of reliability and the 30 will probably be my chief sidekick.

I believe Bwana has one. That's a reasonable 'bear country' gun IMHO.

I like the .357/.38, but I'm even fonder of calibers that start with 4. I'd try shooting a short barreled .44 before you buy - they can be a handful if you're shooting an unported magnum (and loud as hell if shooting a ported magnum - annoyingly loud). But they're not half bad if you load good .44 special (and reserve your magnum loads for bear country). I like this Blazer w/Gold Dot hollowpoint. Cheap enough to afford a bit of practice, always goes bang and that Gold Dot's a good, reliable expander.

All this talk of pistols forces me to post a picture my latest acquisition. This is a Para Ordinance Hi-Cap .45 special edition Operation Iraqi Freedom for the 101st AB. I wouldn't carry it, hell I don't know if I will even shoot it, but most likely I will.

Again, a 600 nitro express on an Encore frame. Not only will it penetrate the tree your target is hiding behind, it will take care of the guy sneaking up behind you with the same shot.

Heh, I really don't think of that thing as a "handgun" - it's more of a portable howitzer.

I still think we should have followed Tony's advice and paid that Chinese guy outside of the motel in Cooke City $5 to shoot a round.

Never doubt crazy cousin Tony.

That's strange, because I was just back home in TN firing off with my buddies across the lake, and such.

We were shooting an old water well pump tank, and the .45 cal pistol was the only one that would penetrate it. Not the Beretta, not the glock .40, not the .357, or any of the other weapons(pistols) we we're firing. The.45 cal model Ruger like the one in this thred was not only going through the front, which no other pistol did, it was blowing shredded holes out of the back, the size of a silver dollar. That gun would blow 5 lbs off a man behind a car door.

It would have killed the poor little bastard because I had it loaded with Corbons. Great for making a bear go night night, but not so nice on the hand. It felt like a bat at full swing hitting your hand with each shot with those rounds in it.

"You want a beer Mr. Lee? Not a problem, but first, you must shoot my little friend." Mu-hahahah!
