Peter King: How all 32 NFL teams stack up as of now

Chiefs are ranked.......Wait for it.....................

29th.

29. Kansas City
Could the Chiefs be this year's Dolphins, a team that gets a quarterback and magically starts being competent? Don't think so. Not unless the front seven of Kansas City is a lot better than it appears right now. The Chiefs surrendered an alarming 5.0 yards per rush last year, and that's not going to change overnight just because they're playing a 3-4 now and because they picked a couple of big bodies, Tyson Jackson and Alex Magee, with their first two choices in the draft.

wat?

Getting 5 wins isn't difficult, even with a highly flawed roster. If we don't win 4 or 5 next year then Haley didn't do his job.

Just like Herm had a keen eye for talent and could fix defenses?

Its going to take 3 years to un-**** this team... Herm left this team worse than he found it...

I have to agree with you- i was trying to be optomistic.

I love the Cassel move-but everything else has kind of sucked. I lot of folks hate tony G on here-but he was my fave and Always drew lots of attention. Who is Matt going to throw to??

Our O line still seems weak as well.

The biggest disapointment is that thug, ho slappin, gun toten, white folk hatin, crybaby bitch Lj is still on the team.

what was our record last year again??/

who is our kicker again???

this team has too many holes to fill for one off season-especially when you stay out of FA and reach in the draft.

the Jackson pick will haunt us worse than Simms.

Nobody with any knowledge of football will be upset about the Jackson pick 5 years from now. The only ones that will be upset are the ones who insist that linemen with less than 5 sacks are garbage.

It certainly doesn't take into account the rest of the team or the building philosophy of Pioli( remember all that Special Teams jack we picked up before the draft? ).

I like being underrated at this stage though. Keep's egos low, and noses to the grindstone. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if The Don put the word out:

"You don't praise SHIT until I TELL YOU TO".

Vegas has us at 5.5, and they are usually spot on. Realistically, there were several games that we should have won last year that were lost in the end of the fourth quarter. We had Thigpen at QB and Herm as coach. We won two, and should have won at least two more. I don't see where there can't be some degree of optimism regarding the Chiefs next season. Just having Haley calling plays along with Gailey should be reason enough, and not having a discombobulated ream job of a defense because Herm is trying to shove a worthless Cover 2 down Gun's throat, and every player on defense has not a single friggin' clue as to what they are supposed to do will be good for at least two games next season.

So, here's my theory:

1. Chiefs were 2-14
2. Haley versus Herm = 2 wins
3. Pendergast versus Herm & Gun cluster **** = 2 wins
4. Cassel versus Thigpen = 2 wins
5. Team adjusting to Tony's abscence = -1 win

Total: '09 Chiefs: 7-9

Good lines take time, especially on defense. But if we can build one as stout as the Pats showed against the run at the beginning of last season, I'll be very happy because when you add the Arrowhead Mojo Factor to the equation; that's one bad mother****ing brick wall of an aggressive line.

It's early, but I truly believe that Haley and Arrowhead are a match made in heaven. It's a Voodoo/Mojo thing, but I'm calling it nonetheless.

Why?

You have two rookies who are going to be integral parts of the D-Line rotation, questions at NT, and two LBs that have lost a step or 5 that will be relied on heavily.

I don't see this defense being any more than marginally better against the run.
