4.3 inch screen PHONES
I can't wait until these things come out this summer. I love a big screen, I am blind as a bat when it comes to small stuff. I have a HTC Mogul and the screen on that is about 2.2 inches. This thing is almost double the screen size of my Mogul, and 30% larger than the I-phone. Can easily watch movies, and I guess Sprint is rolling out Wi-Max to play videos at the highest resolution so far on phones w/ the 4G coverage. All these HTC phones will be running the android system I think, except the HD2 from T-Mobile that runs the new lame windows platform.
My contract w/ Sprint is up in July. I have the old sprint Sero employee plan which is unlimited data, but apparently it isn't compatible for the newer phones. I think unlimited everything plan is $69.99 a month but I somehow finagled a Sprint guy to let me get it for $50 once these phones. It looks like they're taking a safe approach. If it's too late into June, the press will overlook it for the iPhone 4G and so will sales. If it's too early, there's a chance it's rushed.
I do hope the EVO succeeds. But more than that I hope it finds a home other than Sprint. A GSM version of the EVO would present a big challenge to the iPhone. Gotta welcome that.

Verizon is the best carrier as far as coverage is concerned, but Sprint is right up there at #2 or so. It's sure better coverage than fucking AT&T. Sprint, for some reason, people shit on alot. Maybe it had some merit 5-6 years ago. But I have absolutely no complaints w/ Sprint now. My service is usually very good. They customer service is excellent and they have met many of my demands. One time when I was down in Louisiana & Texas for Hurricane Ike. I had roaming charges up the ass because of the downed towers and stuff. They eliminated all my roaming charges that month, and gave me like 200 free roaming minutes a month. I had some BS charge on the internet where I was goated into giving my cell phone because I thought it was needed when buying some merchandise, it ended up signing me up for some monthly suscription. I called Sprint, they took it off no questions asked.

My complaint with Sprint is twofold: not GSM (global) and spotty service. Granted, it's gotten better as of late but still it sucks in comparison with lil ole T-Mobile.

I've had better experience with T-Mobile than Sprint. And while I haven't had Sprint in 4 years, I've had many friends who've had many problems whereas mine have been minor and almost no dropped calls. Service does leave a bit to be desired, to be sure.

Ok.. but sprint coverage should be good enough to prevent you from roaming to that point.... Now the GSM factor is solved since sprint releases World phones with the GSM radios in them - and they include a sprint sim card though most are unlockable to use on any network |

Your GSM talk confuses me. I looked it up, and am still confused. What are the real advantages? Does this have something to do with the fact that my Sprint text messaging is GAY as ****? Other than that, no real problems. Get service pretty much anywhere I spend time. Will hit spots here and there, when I visit family in the booney's, whoopdi-do though. I'm spending time with family, no need for a cell.
The only time it bothers me that I don't get service is when I'm in certain stores. Target is damned near an impenetrable fortress. Hy-Vee drugstore also, not regular Hy-Vee though. Why does this happen? I'd love to call my girlfriend and ask her again what it was I was supposed to be picking up. T-Mobile does rock for coverage. I used Iwireless(a t-mobile affiliate) from 18 until I was 25? maybe. Very few places I didn't get coverage. $40 unlimited minutes was sweet too. Oh well, I like Sprint just fine, better everything package. Can't wait for the Evo. Last edited by aturnis; 05-06-2010 at 09:48 PM.. |

who cares? Gsm is actually not nearly as efficient or reliable a tech as cdma. It was adopted bc the cost to build out a network was cheaper. Same deal with beta vs vhs. Beta was far far superior a picture quality, but way more expensive cost of the player, and so people opted for the cheaper option. plus, this is a rather dead issue. Wimax & Lte will be replacing these & actually the new faster wireless networks are based off CDMA technology. LTE - being a gsm sort of flavor but still really built upon cdma tech. Sprint is using wimax in contrast & the basic difference from how I understand it is it's build for better sigle reliability bc they are branding it as a replacement to broadband & dsl- where lte is not at this point and geared more as just the next step up for mobile data.

Sprint is having their 4G/EVO party in NYC this weekend. Should have some good news coming out about all that good stuff.

I had sprint and switched to verizon several years ago because the phone was out of service at work and at home. With my droid eris I was able to utilize the Directv Sunday Ticket Superfan for the last three weeks of the NFL season(got the phone in mid-Dec). Awesome. Just plain awesome. I watched the Chiefs destroy the Broncos on my phone. The best part is with the standard battery I was able to watch the whole game on my phone.
